Thanks for sharing, and great playing! Found this because I've been using a pickup on my cello bridge for the past year, and I kind of hate it... too much midrange mud, it picks up excessive vibrations from the end pin which means as the cello resonates it sends back extra vibrations from the floor back to the pickup - so it just really builds up tons of low-frequency mud, and makes it hard to get any clarity out of it. I have mixing experience but even then it's a pain in the ass to EQ, so I think I'm just going to switch to a mic. Actually quite shocked how good this tiny on-board mic sounds for the price - your recordings sound nice and clear, very articulate and intimate. Cheers!

Hi, thanks for being here! A few years ago I used the same method as yours - a pickup which captures the vibration from the cello bridge. It was great because I was playing with lots of distortions and effect pedals. Due to artistic decision, I stopped using that method and chose to capture purely the 'crunchiness' of the instrument itself. For that I have been trying several microphones with different types of polar patterns. It is definitely great to use a large or small membrane condenser or dynamic mic. However, because of the size of the microphone and its practicality, I decided to stay amplifying my cello with this miniature microphone. It is definitely great for live performance situation. For studio recording, I would add extra mic placement for ambience/room. Thanks again!

@@emir_cello thanks for the response. Because the mic is so affordable I went ahead and ordered it, and it arrived super quickly from Indonesia to me here in the USA - in less than 4 or 5 days even with customs! I ordered it with the cello mount and tried it out using your different placement suggestions. I think it sounds really fantastic so I'm thrilled. I do a bit of studio recording actually, so I ran a test combining this with my AKG 414 condenser a few feet away which captures more ambience and depth. Blending in the mini clip mic to taste for just a bit of detail (nice to hear the crunch of the strings and bow for articulation). The combination is really great so I couldn't be happier - and it required very little EQ at all compared to my pickup! So glad I found your video, and thanks again 🎻🙏

Im gonna get a cello is a 4/4 a full length one? What beginner one would u recommend?
@emir_cello6 ай бұрын
Any beginner cello set are good to start with. My only advice would be just to start with any low-tension strings as it will help you to reduce unnecessary pain when starting. Goodluck!

Great video!! I’m currently in a dance project where I improvise with my modular synth along with a cellist, but he never played with a mic, so I’m kinda responsable for that…. With this omnidirectional mic is there a chance that it will produce feedback?? Thanks!
@emir_cello7 ай бұрын
Thank you! Feedback would always occur especially when you are too close to monitor speakers. First of all, try to play with an in-ear monitor. Another trick is to set the gain of your mic channel from your interface pretty low, and then you can crank it up on your mixer. Hope it helps!
