OUR planet took a different tilt on its axis in 1967. The music, attitudes, innocence all morphed into these modern times: Black and white is projected in color. Mono is heard in stereo. The cars became compacts, surfboards shrank in size,, cigarettes vaped from our TV screens to the unseen. Kmart was replaced by Walmart.Brick and mortar fell to Amazon. Once they had sucked all the silver from our coins, they went to work dividing the currency into smaller bits. A once civil divided nation reunited then split again into US(A), and a cult who held their noses and voted into power a chief-thief who wouldn't quit. We feared WWIII and freely cast away democracy; chosing autocracy, so we would not be burdened with having to cast our votes again. The Polio vaccine to Covid 19. Somewhere along the trip, (from there to here) our chromosomes became tangled: XX +XY=Xxy or even (uneven) Yxx. A LGBQ, BBQ. "I was so much younger then, I'm older than that now." No NOW KNOW Bad is Good. Up/Down 1967, the point in time when the transition began. Here we sit, a half century later, fondly remembering when we, post WW -youngsters were slightly more innocent, our 10- year-old lips smoking cancer sticks, Marlboro Men liking Ike; JFK,,LBJ LSD.

Eric Burdon is one of my favourite singers...!!

Much as I like the Sam and Dave version of this song, this version by Eric Burdon is by far the best. And the backing could not be better (I think that's Otis Redding's band?). I urge anyone who enjoys this video to watch the complete show, which was an Otis Redding Special of 'Ready, Steady Go', dated September 16th 1966. Obviously Otis was the headliner but Eric (and the other guest Chris Farlowe) was not overshadowed one bit by the great man and the climax at the finish when they sang 'Shake' and 'Land of 1000 Dances' is another top notch performance where they play off each other perfectly. You can tell they, and the audience, are having a ball. The whole special is available on KZfaq.

Ya I just turned 72 and the band that I was in for 27 years we used to do this song occasionally but unfortunately I can’t mention the bands name because of contractual and business reasons but this song really brings back memories and I can still remember all the words and sometimes when I’m playing my guitar I’ll just start playing this song and I still get a kick out of it… even had to use a name that isn’t my own- now that’s I think is a little crazy

'my father was a soldier then' Tell me you're part of the postwar generation without telling me. This line makes very little sense for someone born after 1985 outside of the few kids who actually have a parent in the military.
