Lee Kwan Yew and his allies *allied with the Singapore Left* to overthrow British colonialism ...and then threw a lot of them in jail and banned various left-wing parties/factions once they were no longer 'politically convenient' to the new ruling class led by him They also framed a bunch of "Marxists" for a fake "conspiracy" in the late 1980s (Operation Spectrum), among other things

Hundreds of years ago, when the Western maritime civilisations set out to explore the world and encountered natives of "Deepest, Dark Africa", and discovered the "New World", and then various other natives in other dark, swampy, tropical areas (Asia), and realised that these primitive tribal people had not had the privilege of being touched by Christianity, and they, the explorers, out of the goodness of their hearts, decided that the best thing they could do for these heathens was to introduce them to Christianity. Today, this "policy" is recognised for the arrogant chauvinism that it is, and has been dropped, and remediated where possible. "Democracy" is the new religion, and disseminated with the same religious fervour regardless of situation, context, relevance, and applicability. The US, that bastion and paragon of Democracy (read this sarcastically), decided out of the goodness of their democratic heart, that Afghanistan just needed Democracy. And so the US went into Afghanistan, and in 20 years tried to establish a Democratic Nation. They SUCCEEDED! (read this sarcastically), and left Afghanistan. Democracy. What is it good for?

They weren't interested in democracy. That is a ruse. They are interested in opening markets to their products and getting cheap raw materials to make finished products to sell back to the supplier of raw materials. Saudi Arabia is not a democracy. Has it been invaded and a democratic government installed?

Well he's completely wrong. Singapore is in a fortunate location as a gobal trade hub, but it's contributed very little to the world compared to similar sized liberal democracies in western countries like finland. Its biggest companies are just overseas banks and other financial institutions.

When the people can vote for a man to be the government, not permanently but periodically by the length of time in office, they will have happiness. That is how Democracy is helpful.

Democracy works like a ship. Only the most skilled leaders should captain it but that often does not happen. Additionally even if the captain is the best captain in the world, it's nothing if the crew (citizens) have no idea how to run the ship. Therein lies the folly of democracy. No one cares to know how it works and they vote for the loudest candy man who promises the most candy.
@mojojojo01.4 ай бұрын
It seems that in multiethnic cultures especially this is completely untrue, and it’s almost a liability to have democracy. I think the future will be china’s model of one government, meritocracy, authoritarian capitalism.

@@preddysaragih3034 Absolute power corrupts absolutely. When one knows they are in power and no matter what they do they will stay in power, they tend to do anything they want. Elections can hold people in power more accountable and ensure that new opportunities are created. Even in oligarchic styles of government, it allows for shifts even if more slowly. Countries not allowed power shifts and change will eventually undergo revolution like a boiler with no pressure release. You need balance.
