You'd never really want to cross blades with Katana's. They just didn't have the tensile strength to handle shock like that. They'd crack or nick easily. They were sharp, but would also dull quickly due to the pig iron they would be forged with. Depending on when this is supposed to take place, they wouldn't use spears, but Naginata or even Tachi's. Not sure why they only wore their Katana and Tanto, but not their wakizashi's. Also, one wore their sword blade up and the other blade down. U wan't to keep ur 'firepower' as much as possible so to speak? It'll b more interesting if u analyze the scenario vs. just looking at the video as for an enterTaintMint. B has started to attack him at long distance beyond his sword reach (AGAIN). He even tried thinking the only way to win is to do the close quarter fight again. So he tried pulling his small Katana. Well, B didn't give him even a split second to do so as B had already caught his long sword again (1:59). Something different must b done to even survive! B is slowly reeling him closer n closer to his Sickle of death. SOooo ... Turn Around: 2:23 - I dink stepping on this tangled sword was a good idea. B was surprised, got off balanced. His stepping won't hv worked if the ground was wet or muddy to disable the ball n chain use. Now, M got close to B to attack him. He did (2:27) But B parried n recovered to repeat the same long dist. attck. It's nut too difficult to parry sword swings buttto very difficult to parry jabbings. But Biken did! Oh Heck! It's all over for Biken bc. now, Musashi had figured out how to defeat him. How to get close and it's the only way to make the kill, but of course, it's a great gamble. He can get killed w that Sickle. Even B's wife got real worried. Now, he got the two swords drawn out w a different demeanor (2:49). 3:14 - M spies B's short word. He sees his Wakizashi for another close quarter killing. But he may have made the Kusari-Gama opponent think dattttoo he needn't worry bout the close combat (a Faint attack method?) anymore w its loss. Oops! M gave up both the Main Katana (Tachi) and the short one. Biken didn't realize HIS Wakizashi can be used by the opponent, Musashi. The purpose of the small sword, Wakizashi is to be allowed to carry some protections indoors when ur visiting someone's residence or like a castle. No one is allowed to carry the main Katana indoors (unless ur a violator, invader, etc.). And, it's too awkward to carry such hvy n long Katana even in ur own home back then. Yes, the smaller katana is used for other purposes too, like for a close quarter as Musashi used the opponent's, mercy killing of the opponent (EZr to clean blood off than the longer sword?), or sepuku. I dink(think) the last word Shishido muttered, 'Katsu' was his unborn child of which the background wife was still carrying. If u c the aftermath of this duel, u would understand more about the humanity side of Musashi, a true Samurai.
