That is some of the crappiest machine work I've ever seen, being performed in the crappiest machine shop I've seen. Spent 58 years in machining; no shop I've ever been in would produce a part that looks as crude as this. Chuck that casting in the CNC machine, turn first end, then flip in stepped jaws to complete second end. One handling completed in 3 minutes. One man could feed the lathe and the gear shaper. Throw into a vibrating deburr tub for deburr. Done and done. I was surprised to see the CNC; based on the rapid position speed I would guess it's from the 80's.
