I recently acquired my grandfather's 1999 kettle. It's also a little banged up so I'm spending the time to sort out the rust issues, the dings in the metal work and clean all the years of burned on grease. She's going to get new legs, handles, ash sweepers and catcher, grills and a fresh layer(s) of heat resistant paint. It's going to a fun project.

I would recommend getting the Weber brand sweeper assembly and not the cheaper no-name replacement, they don't last.

@@boonecollard Thanks for the information. With exception to the thermometer and paint, all the parts will be genuine Weber parts either from Weber directly or from local sellers.

I guess KZfaq decided to show me this 2 weeks after I was searching, trying to figure out if I could add the ash catcher to mine. 🙃 I took my 14 year old 22'' Original Kettle and added the high capacity ash catcher. Added that plus replaced the handles with new style and replaced the damper blades. $85 shipped I think was well worth it to refresh an old Kettle. I would have liked to replace the legs and leg support on mine and they are quite rusty, couldn't justify the price ($48 + $35) as they still work. P/N 7478 Webber tool hook handle P/N 80671 Lid Handle P/N 65143 22" ash catcher P/N 7444 One Touch damper blades (Cheapest on Amazon. I've replaced them several times) Use a grinder on the bottom clip/nut as to not "cut" into the bowl. The heat from the grinder also works these loose and it end up just falling apart before you grind into the bowl.

that was truly a labor of love there. I was looking for just this technique. I have tried this in the oven on a vertical still trompo. It was good, but not like when it is on a spit or when it I get it from the restaurant Sal y Limon. But I will give this a try this summer.

You can buy brand new Weber Kettles for $139. Plus sales tax. The last expensive one.

Thanks for the great tip brotha! Did this put an extra grate on top and lined it with foil and put an old baking sheet on top. Worked like a charm! This thing makes great pies once you get past the learning curve.

Like the video. Can you tell me about your temp gauge and the shelf bracket in the side of the cooker? Thanks.
@boonecollard
@boonecollard 8 ай бұрын
The temp gauge is a Thermoworks Signals w/ the Billows fan. The side table is a discontinued Weber side table. The top is a wood cutting board with a juice trough routed around the edge. I found mine at my local Ace Hardware, it was old stock. There is one for sale on ebay now but they are asking about $190.

The letter code on your lid damper indicates what year your weber is made. From 1979 it started with ab A stamed on it. Just google weber age and the list will come up.

One great thing about Weber equipment, you can get parts & support for their products going back 40 years! It is cheaper than you may think plus you come away with a still high performing machine which will feed everyone of us & if you have a family, them too! You just have to take some deep inspection of yourself to understand to appreciate what these simple machines do for us & give them some periodic simple maintenance. (Give them some hard earned LOVE! Weber kettle cookers & many others need to be maintained!)

Weber support sent me a new bowl 3 years after I bought mine just because some of the paint bubbled up on the bottle inside where the leg support are spot welded. I will always buy their products.

do you think the BIllows will work just as good if you just use the water pan that comes with the WSM? I am thinking of getting the billows for my 18.5 WSM.
@boonecollard
@boonecollard Жыл бұрын
Yes, you will have to figure out how to set up your cooks to make it work how you want, though. It really shines in the last few hours when the coals start to lose temp, the billows will help keep the temp up.
