I really like the "Friday the 13th" remake. As far as Jason not being supernatural; I'm pretty sure that didn't happen until "Part VI: Jason Lives". This movie took most of its plot points from the first four movies, so him not being supernatural yet is fine, imo.

hmmm he comes up and back to life as a disfigured boy who was in the lake in Part 1 and keeps coming back to life from every movie afterwards and can somehow, despite never running, always appear back in front of of people who were running away -he was dead from the start so he'd have to have always been supernatural right? I know this has always been a point of discussion but if his mama thought he was dead and he was in teh bottom of the lake -he dead IMO hahaha! but i love the remake as well!

Dude amazing list - when you started talking Tony Scott I knew instantly you’d say The Fan. It is glorious A+ trash. Mr. Destiny is fantastic, loved it since I was a kid. Donnie Brasco to me is in the Top 5 mob movies - one of the best. Blast From the Past is super charming. I think I watch School Ties once every 9 months. Some of my picks: Taking Care of Business (Jim Belushi, Charles Grodin movie); Super Mario Bros (1993); The Frighteners - (that turbine release is my prized disc); Hamlet 2 (steve coogan movie from 2008, absolutely hysterical)

Going into this I guessed Last Action Hero would be #1. When you started your spiel for #2 I knew my guess was off by one 😆. I didn't really like it when I saw it in the theater, I don't think the marketing did a great job and it wasn't what I expected. Years later I came to appreciate it's satirical brilliance. Edit: incidentally, kevin smith has a new film coming out called The 4:00 Movie about a group of kids in the 80's spending the day screen hopping at the local theater. I'm looking forward to that.

I hear you and you've made some fair points. But Criterion has an excellent reputation and excellent collection of movies. So, when it adds a 4K version to its collection to improve its library, I'm happy. I wish you had discussed the special features that come with Shape of Water because Criterion sometimes adds new content. Did it with The Shape of Water? And how does Criterion get to advertise "Director approved"? Are the other 4K versions out there director approved?😮

thanks for the discussion! I do beleive there is 1 new interview, otherwise all of the special features and 4k scan are the same as the current 4k release....if he signed off on that release then it is director approved...some thing as only needing about 1% of a movie to be inspired by a true story to say it is "based on a true story" I would suppose lol...plenty of times stuidos work with directors on those types of releases, it is not just boutiques that do that!

Nice list, I just bought The Majestic on blu from Gruv for less than $10, looking to revisit it. Had a few potential TARGETS for you in case your unfamiliar with them, Blood Theatre 1984, released on blu by Vinegar Syndrome. It's actually going OOP and there's less than 50 copies left so I'd recommend going after that one pretty soon if your interested. Another good one is The Projectionist from 1971, with Rodney Dangerfield. I think you'd really like that one, there is an old DVD. And there was a Disney channel film called Phantom Of The Megaplex from 2000. No good release of that, but it's viewable on Amazon Prime and is "out there' elsewhere on the net. I'd actually forgotten about the Last Showing, there is a cheap blu ray of it.

I can think of a number of these like Demons, The Majestic, and The Last Action Hero, but the one that pops up in my mind first is the movie Popcorn. It's not the greatest or most memorable horror. I just think it used the setting of a theatre in the best ways to set the atmosphere of this underated film. An empty theatre has a creepy vibe to them, so I think the horror genre works best with these kind of films. Also, drive-in movies still exist, I had one just down the road from my house in Atlanta called The Starlight, which gets massive crowds still. A few sports related films I would suggest are Necessary Roughness, Any Given Sunday, and The Rookie which I watched recently and reminded me of how good that one was. You could include a number of others to that list from Disney like The Mighty Ducks, The Sandlot, and The Big Green.
