Claims of perfect pitch, but no real demonstration of perfect pitch. I can believe people like Ryan here can memorize a variety key tones. I do not refer to that as perfect pitch. For examples of real perfect pitch, visit Rick Beato's website (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qplzlZSi3Km5pn0.htmlfeature=shared). Now THAT is perfect pitch. Now, if you develop a method for developing that level of hearing in a old dude..... I am all ears : )

The friend that said he was a naturally flat singer was unconsciously wanting to sing in A432hz scientific pitch because it's more natural. We use A440hz as a standar, but it was picked arbitrarily. Animals don't sings or call in A440hz. At all. And neither do we, at heart. But whole "sacred" pitch thing is a whole other subject, so I won't say anymore on that. BUT, what I wanted to share here, and to add to what Ryan is explaining: yes, perfect pitch is an automatic perception (and it can be learned), but there is actually a REASON we have perfect pitch at all. It's because we hear the notes in the same way as we see colors. Like C (red) isn't a color, but it is one of the most fiery an personal notes. Love songs. D is orange. E is yellow. F is line-green. F# is grass green. That is to say, F# and a very open, expansive sound. But also it sounds more distant and detached. Therefore songs of envy are in F an F# (see Mariah Carey's "Can't Let Go." The Baroque and Classical "pastoral" were all in F major. (See Beethoven's "Pastoral Symphony in F.") So, green is both Nature AND Envy (the grass is always greener on the other side). Keep in mind that there are 12 color divisions in the color wheel, just as there 12 notes from C to C. // If you follow the notes as a spectrum, you will also see that the tritone or "devil's interval" matches each color to it's complimentary color. C/red vs tritone F#/green. Opposite colors. Or Orange vs Blue is a tritone of D and Ab. It makes it easy for me to count notes this way because if I want to know the tritone of F (lime-green) i just think of magenta, which is B! I hate to give out these types of "absolute" sort of descriptions of sound because I think it's important that the student learn to hear them on their own. So, what I want to say to the viewers (all A432Hz tuning aside), is that in addition to the exercises explained here, make a journal and write down how one one sounds in comparison to another. You will be amazed at what your ear tells you! My own work with color and SHAPE association can be found here at: _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_ Thanks, Ryan!

Mr. Ryan, my story is strange compared to yours. I learned to distinguish each note by comparing the notes and writing down the differences into a journal. The strange thing is that instead of going thru the work of doing all the different exercises for learning perfect pitch, I started writing out an entire Theory of Pitch Psychology, to where i starting seeing that we hear the ascending notes spectrally. Beginning with middle C as red. What I mean is that the textural "colorings" of the chromatic notes have the "color energies" of the rainbow. C is like red. D is orange, E is bright an piercing and flasy: yellow. F is lime Green. F# is a full grass green. etc. And what's crazy is that i can even hear how the notes to the left of F# (green) are the "warm" notes. And to the right of F# the keys are "cool." A-flat (the key of death) being the coldest in feeling. Blue. Sounds like twinkling stars in space. // You and your viewers should totally TOTALLY see my videos on this. It's compelling because i'm seeing that love songs really do get (unconsciously) written in C. Over and over. And songs of death, or estrangement really are in A-flat. // I have even , at this stage, learned to THINK of a color-shape instead of a note-name when i play piano. But, anyway thanks for the tips, and I really REALLY need to get off my ass and just DO the perfect pitch exercises! Your, _Acoustic Rabbit Hole_

I believe this phenomenon is referred to as synesthesia, and I've encountered quite a few people who have different color/pitch relationships. This one you're describing seems to be more common, though I'm sure a wide survey of musicians aware and unaware would yield much firmer results. I've started to theorize there may be 2 or 3 variations of synesthesia that correlate with how intense one's natural pitch recognition ability is, and I think a great way to categorize them would be synesthesia A, B and C (assuming there are 3, there could be more, there could be less!) As I grow and encounter more musicians, I will definitely be keeping this in mind. I personally don't have synesthesia, and am quite envious! Cherish your natural ability to perceive, it is truly a blessing.
@Acoustic-Rabbit-Hole
@Acoustic-Rabbit-Hole Күн бұрын
@@RyanOConnorDrums Nice call, but this is something different than synesthesia. Look closely at what i wrote. I said that each note had a different texture to it. Not a color. i only applied the color lables later when I realized it texutres of the chromatic notes matched the symbolic energies of the colors on the rainbow spectrum. A-flat ALWAYS sounds thin, and distant. Removed. C always sounds full and present. Heavy. Warm. When I labled C as red (for warmth/fire) and Ab as blue (cold, removed, alone, lonely), each note just fell into place. You can hear this, too. As I was saying in my initial statement, by just comparing the notes and writing down the differences, you will hear the same thing. This is what I call my Theory of Pitch Psychology. Which says noting more than that our hearing is spectral in coloring (texturing), and that not only does this apply to everyone, it explains WHY anyone would even have perfect pitch al all. uTuber Adam Neely is very anti-sprituality, making fun of people who tune or meditate to A432hz scientific tuning, or he makes fun of people who believe that different keys had different emotive effects. Yet for him to run around and just say "You have be be born with perfect pitch, or you just dont' got it," is complete reductionist Magical Thinking at this best. You should totally see my channel where I show that there is a spectral movement of SHAPES for each color and note as well. I call this my Geo-chromatic Extension. My stuuf is at: _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_

@@RyanOConnorDrums OMG, I didn't realize you were Ryan from this channel. // Yes, if you just sit for a few minutes at time compare one note against another and write it down, you will very quickly see WHY you are able to identify a specific note. Because each note as a diffferent colring. There is an interesting story of a young piano tuner who fianlly went to an older, veteran tuner and said, "I can't seem to get the "twant" ouf the of the F# , no matter what I try. The old piano tuner laughted and said, "No, that's just how F# sounds!"

That's how to start! // Remember this. Don't try to "learn" a new note after this. I generally just leads to frustration. Learn a new note in RELATION to the C. It might seem like cheating at first (like using relative pitch), but you will soon realize that notes all live in the context of each other anyway since the harmoinc series (musical sub-vibrations) like underneath any main pitch. // Other thing is just write down you do describe one note in relation to another. Each note DOES have it's own coloring. // My theories on this can be found here at _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_ as well. Happy ukulele playing!

This video is great; being able to hear a correct note in your head from long-term memory is what perfect pitch really is, and a lot of misconceptions about perfect pitch stem from people not realizing this. If you have this ability, you can think of songs or sounds where you can hear the pitch in your head, then write down and study pitches corresponding to each of them, can even use flashcards. If you can do it for one sound, it's likely that there are other songs/sounds you have in your long term memory that can be labelled. This ability varies from person to person, but generally the more songs/sounds you can commit to your long-term memory, the better your absolute pitch gets. It doesn't matter if you are an adult; if you've had this ability your whole life, you have the ability to develop perfect pitch. It takes practice, and most people with this ability aren't willing to put it the effort because of the myths about how you can only develop perfect pitch if you're very young. I did this at 18 years old, and the speed that I can recognize pitches still improves as I continue to learn with this method; you also start to hear how song keys interrelate, which makes it easier to learn more of them. The earlier you start, the better it can get

You CANNOT teach yourself perfect pitch. All you can do is teach yourself (at best) perfect RELATIVE PITCH. Perfect pitch is the quick recognition of any of the 12 notes played with no hesitation or reference. It begins in childhood. It cannot be taught. As if this guy hasnt trained himself to the point when it could pretty much be perfect pitch. Honestly, I would just like to develop a decent sense of relative pitch. At some level my brain must be able to tell different intervals apart, because I can learn and recognize specific melodies, and I can distinguish ones that use the same rhythm. But when I hear two notes one after the other, I can't identify the interval, or even say whether it was ascending or descending unless the difference is quite large. I can't tell a third from a fifth, or from a semitone for that matter, by listening. I can't even specifically identify an octave -- I can't tell whether both notes are the "same" note in a different octave, or not, which is something that most music theorists consider extremely fundamental. My ability to recognize melodies, which are made out of intervals, implies that my brain has the potential to learn how to recognize intervals. The information needed to do that must be in my head somewhere. But I can't figure out how to access it.

Interesting video, but the title and intro were very prideful imo. Like it's cool that you've realized this for yourself but it's definitely not as foundational as Bach. I don't mean to rain on your parade though, because if that system you came up with works for you to identify a note then that's cool. But compared to actually learning music as a whole, memorizing a note is a pretty trivial thing. Like if you can do that but can't barely play any instrument or make music, it doesn't add much to being a musician. At that point it's basically just a party trick. But if you're already a great musician, this can be a helpful tool. But that's all it really is, a tool. The much more important skill to learn that you touched on a little bit is being able to hear an interval in your head. Levi Clay already made a video about it (title: "The Ear Training Exercise That REALLY Matters! Why Don't They TEACH It?!") that explains it pretty well. Basically it's just being able to sound out intervals in your head, which they don't really teach because it's not testable. What they teach is hearing an interval and being able to identify what interval it is, which is a completely different thing.
