Even now, I feel so desperately sad for the victims of this horrendous attack. I remember watching it unfold on tv. It was nearly 2pm here in the uk. My memories of this day are still so vivid. So sad. 😢😢

Not to be that guy but 12:30 I've been pretty supportive of Palestine during the war they're in but for them to be celebrating the deaths of Americans in 2001 while pleading for help in 2024 is hypocritical

Real characters are a gift, and much rarer these days. No "muckin about", just "straight to the point" ( or "straight t't point). Hard and clear, but warm and determined to let nobody simply fall by the wayside. 1950s Salford was my home. I miss it greatly. But you leave places in space. And they disappear in time. You can't go back in time. At least not outside your own head. 't

I don't know how and why people living in the East could celebrate the attacks on the United States ? Even today, nearly 23 years later, a lot of questions still remain unanswered... 😢😔

Although its never been admitted, I gather that Morningtown Ride by The Seekers was their way of indicating that they often played an Australian Rules version - Morningtown Crescent before their concerts.

I was waiting in a que that day to get tested for genital warts and when i heard this in the background on the tv on the wall it took my mind briefly on my own situation, was definitely eye opening.

That was such a beautiful piece of audio history, although I've heard it elsewhere a very long time ago. It left me feeling somewhat melancholy, but in these moods I always know why. #DDay80 {Must say I'm just a 61 year old, but feel so very old}.

After a while you allowed a mosque to be built in the area as a mockery of the American victims and now the Americans are protesting in the interest of their causes, rewarding them for their deeds. This shows how much Americans love their country.

This is probably the most dramatic I have ever seen BBC newsreaders and rightly so. American newsreaders are twice as dramatic when talking about a cat stuck in a tree. Exceptionally good coverage of one of the worst days in human history.

Back in the weekdays when it started (for me) with COLIN BERRY / RAY MOORE / TERRY WOGAN / JIMMY YOUNG / GLORIA HUNNIFORD / ED STEWART / DAVID HAMILTON finishing up with JOHN DUNN. Sundays were my favourite with: JOHN SACHS / DESMOND CARRINGTON / BENNY GREEN / ALAN DELL / STRING SOUND / SING SOMETHING SIMPLE / SUNDAY SOAPBOX / MELODIES FOR YOU / YOUR HUNDRED BEST TUNES ..... these might not have all been on the same Sunday depending on which year but nevertheless I loved the relaxing variety

Can you imagine the restraint required to not channel all of your anger from such a monstrous attack, directly through the largest military the world has ever seen. There must have been a moment where that went through the presidents mind, regardless of proof of guilt, there would have been an overwhelming instinct to pulverise another state.

I used to record like this all the time. The news jingles and others. Especially the "Clash of the Titan" as Wogan had a two way with JY just before the handover. I do still have a Wogan's Winner spot somewhere. Unfortunately the tapes were packed away and stored in a place where they were stolen, in the nineties. 😭
