Life happens very quickly in Thailand as you probably already know from your visits. You can take it slow and cheap for a long time on savings, and even build your youtube channel as you go. Your channel will explode if you keep it interesting, and it will more than likely pay for you to stay long term. I'm 47 and plan to sell all my shit at 51 when I lock in my 30 year pension that I can't touch until I'm 60. No sense working another 9 years waiting for it, when I can make money from my laptop in Thailand. It just means I'll be in that $1500-$2500 category per month for the first 9 years, and then in the $5k and up club at 60. I'm pretty sure I would stay...
@jonlambert7627 күн бұрын
We're the same age! Actually amazing, as I thought pensions were long gone by this point, lol. Yeah for sure, will be ramping up more KZfaq videos. Indeed, planning on living a more chill life after those first two months, which is honestly how I ended up saving money here in the U.S. as well. Thanks for the input, btw I checked out some of your art, you've got some superb skills mate.

@@jonlambert76 That's my side hustle. I sell those books on Amazon. My railroad job pays into railroad retirement.. 26 years deep now, so that last 4 would be stupid not to lock in. I just got some mail yesterday saying that if I quit now, I'd only make about $1900 per month at 60 years old. My dad retired in 2006 from the railroad and makes around $5k a month. I could rent one of those villas in Koh Samui right on the ocean for that budget, and still save $1500 a month. I could also move back here and struggle to save any of it....

Thai-American here! Please, please, please, learn the language!!! It will make your Thailand experience so much greater. Fluency will open up a whole new world for you in the Land of Smiles. Thai people are very social people but most lack the English skills to effectively communicate with foreigners. Remember, you are the foreigner, it is incumbent on you to learn Thai, not the other way around. Furthermore, you will have access to more Thai women when you're fluent. It is said that there are 4 Thai women for every 1 man in Thailand. Use the first year to learn Thai because it will take you at least two years to achieve fluency with lots of practice! See you there in October 2024!

Thank you for that insight. Yes, I'm definitely looking forward to learning Thai. Definitely wanting to take a group class so I can practice with other people. 👍

Nice set of videos. While we are not ready for the move, we are starting our Thai adventure next year looking where would be good landing places and get a feel for the place. Question on your purge, where did you offload/sell all your stuff? We actual started a few weeks ago and agree there are more pieces of stuff to get rid of!!

I had the most activity on FB marketplace by far. Sold a small amount on Craigslist and OfferUp. Ebay is great for small shippable electronics that are easier sold to a broad audience rather than locally. And of course, I donated tons of clothes, dishes, and housewares. Also each week, I throw away a bunch as well. You almost become a "professional" seller when you take on the exercise of getting rid of everything. And you also end up having interesting conversations with buyers when they learn you're selling everything to move overseas. Glad to hear you're putting the process in motion!

My wife and I go to Thailand every year and adore it. Bangkok is great, you will love it. Street food is fantastic, so do not be scared to have some. Also check out the food courts, which are similar value but indoors with tables and chairs. Basically, a meal for around $1-2. Oh and the fresh fruit is the best you will get anywhere! Enjoy! @7:55 its not advisable to step on any feet of the mono pod. You will eventually bend the foot and put unnecessary stress on the brackets. In my opinion do not step on the feet

Definitely a compelling price at essentially half what the Manfrotto is currently at. Great overview and examples. The only thing that worries me (which is a constant fear of all budget gear) is the mounting bracket. When I buy something from Manfrotto or something with like a arca swiss plate I know my camera isn't going anywhere as long as I tighten it up right. Sometimes I want to get a close up of someone walking and flip my monopod upside down and I'm not sure I'd feel completely comfortable doing that with this one.
@jonlambert765 жыл бұрын
This does have a lock on the plate. Haven't had any problems with that.

Hi Jon. Question. The head fluid is made all metal or plastic? Does the monopod staying still upright with camera, no falling? for posting video.
@jonlambert765 жыл бұрын
From what I can tell, it is made of multiple materials. It's quite sturdy and the base plate with the core of the head is metal, but some parts such as the knobs are a type of plastic. Yes, I just used it tonight for an event, and then did a self portrait from about 15 feet away, where I let the tripod legs hold the weight. As long as you balance it, and then tighten the bottom screw really well, it will stand up fine.. just don't trust any strong winds or setting it on a moving platform, like in a bus or train, and it will work fine. Btw, the fluid head is quite smooth. I have no complaints about this after almost 2 months of use.
