there is nothing at all being done wrong here. these cars never had the right gaps and this is the only way to get a gap that good. the contour of the edge of the door just doesnt seem to match that on the quarter panel

Wow! good job. I'm just wondering if that primer flexes? Also, what paint will you ultimately use ? Do you use any flex additives?

no additives. my understanding is that they arent needed, just a few light coats of primer. i used UreChem paint and clearcoat. There are videos on my channel showing the paint process. Its held up well. No issues with cracking.

Thanks, I did not put the valance on. I agree I like the sleek look you might end up scratching the paint when you remove the trim and it could possibly be stained underneath but if you remove it carefully, you could put it back on if you don’t like it. Just my thoughts.

@HeavyPedalGarage
@HeavyPedalGarage Ай бұрын
It would be similar to the process I went through on this car. I do have a few videos on my channel That shows what I did. if you have the bumper brackets for the 73, all you need to do is attach some tabs to the bottom inside of the fenders, so that the lower valance can be mounted. I made mine out of some scrap metal and welded them onto the fender before I painted. other than that, It’s just body work to get it to match up perfectly. But with the correct alignment bodywork may not be needed.

There is that Landau top glue that I mentioned, but I don’t know if that would work any better. sorry you had issues.

Im an expert in composites and this agent can be removed from the surface for a strong bond with any resins (smc or not). First you hit the surface with 80 grit and then clean it really really good with a wax and grease remover. Lastly, do a panel wipe with acetone and it'll bond like hell

@Rabbit.760

@@DR-um2bv you need a rough mechanical bond and it needs to be clean as hell! (As in 0 impurities) Then after getting it clean, acetone is a good bonding agent for sheet molding if u soften it just enough and lay glass immediately after

Now I am confused. I am trying to make a repair on the bottom of a boat where the keel meets the hull. It has cracks and its original woven cloth. From the 8s and some of the boat is green at the fiberglass level some is brown. No I believe that it is just fiberglass resin. So I was wondering now what I need. I was planning to using the strongest fiberglass cloth I could find and connect the original that way and to get it smooth so I could finish I was puttin matting on top. So what the heck? use smc? or polyster or what. ? Its a 17 ft sailboat.

What I like about your videos you explain issues/struggles that will help keep us motivated to fix it. I've been 2 yrs dealing with out of line windows. It can be so frustrating. Your last statement about tilting the rear outward, magically moved the front inwards. That has been my issue. Again, Thank you and I hope you have a great memorial day.
