@yukesmusic Greetings I kinda got lost as to why you were using different cards, then it hit me. You using 404sx not mk2 (just got the mk2 myself a few weeks ago). I guess you would make different Projects in the MK2 vs. having the actual card (except for bkup)
@baytinsopo18 күн бұрын
The concepts still apply. Appreciate you 👍🏾
@yukesmusic18 күн бұрын
@@baytinsopo that's exactly it~ the 'projects' functionality in the MkII is far superior to the original 404's 'backups' function.

With multilayered sounds, having a delay as part of the ADSR is super handy.

So nice that you got the call to demo this for Arturia. Especially in that you have experience with using traditional Chinese instruments along with synthesisers.

Oh heeeeeyyy!!!!! I'm so happy to have finally fallen on another person who EXPLICITLY mentions they want to build a holophonor! (or an instrument that has the same intention). I'm an experimental animator. hehe. I did not know about this instrument. It sounds so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. 💗🖖

Your playing is so cinematic and beautiful brother. It inspired me a lot. I have some questions, it has some latency ? Because it is MIDI over bluetooth. Which cheap EWI can play well without latency?
@yukesmusicАй бұрын
I haven't found the Bluetooth latency to be noticable, to be honest. If you want something with Bluetooth MIDI & a bit more under the hood, consider the Robkoo Clari.

The Soviet Union's artistic and cultural development from the early to mid-20th century significantly influenced the rise of modernism and minimalism. Here is some relevant background information: 1. **Lenin and Electrification**: Lenin once said, "Communism is Soviet power plus the electrification of the whole country," highlighting the importance of technology and modernization for communism. This ideology influenced Soviet artists and designers of the time, who often pursued a combination of technology and minimalism. 2. **Minimalism and Electronic Music**: Soviet minimalism manifested in art, architecture, and music. Kazimir Malevich's "Black Square" is a prime example of minimalism. First exhibited in 1915, this artwork is considered a significant milestone in modern art. It emphasizes simple geometric forms and extreme abstraction, profoundly influencing later graphic design, architecture, and other forms of modern art. 3. **Stalin's Influence**: During Stalin's era, the Soviet Union promoted Socialist Realism, demanding that artworks serve the purpose of communist propaganda. This policy stifled the development of many modernist and avant-garde arts. Many artists and musicians were persecuted or forced to change their styles during this period. 4. **Influence on Chinese Musicians**: Under Stalin's influence, China also required artworks to serve political purposes. Chinese musicians during this period were similarly influenced by Soviet Socialist Realism. However, after the economic reforms, a more diverse and modern artistic expression began to flourish in China. The "Yama YM 8501" was a toy electronic piano produced in China in the 1970s, priced at around $15. This electronic instrument had a simple structure, possibly incorporating the tonal qualities of traditional Chinese instruments like the erhu, combined with electronic waveform sounds. These instruments were typically inexpensive and suitable for households and music enthusiasts. Here are some key points related to this background information: 1. **Minimalist Design**: The design of such instruments was minimalist, in line with the influence of minimalist art in both China and the Soviet Union at the time. The simple structure and functionality made them easy to manufacture and use. 2. **Development of Electronic Music**: Despite the promotion of Socialist Realism in the mid-20th century in both the Soviet Union and China, electronic music development continued in some areas. Electronic instruments like the "Yama YM 8501" reflect the era's exploration of new technology and sound. 3. **Fusion of Tradition and Modernity**: The sound characteristics of this toy electronic piano likely incorporated elements of traditional Chinese instruments, reflecting a fusion of cultural exchange and innovation. In the political context of the time, this fusion of tradition and modernity also expressed modernization and technological progress. In summary, electronic instruments like the "Yama YM 8501" were products of their time, reflecting the influence of minimalist and modernist art in China and the Soviet Union. These instruments showcased innovation in sound and embodied the principles of simplicity and practicality in their design and functionality.

If you ever decide to get out of the music business, you should become a professional instructor. You have a laid back vibe about you, making your voice very conducive to learning. I've never had the desire or even an inking to live in China, but I sure do wish I could see you perform live! Any live streams planned for your future?

What is the instrument in the thumbnail with the inbuilt keys? Is this an actual instrument? Thank you for this video Yukes :)

It's just a cheeky edit of the 404a with the Novation Mininova keys, not a real instrument.
I honestly don't know where to start. This (and your other videos) I find so inspirational and incredibly well produced I cannot thank you enough for sharing them. I can see having a set-up like this not only uncluttering my workspace but also my mind. Hopefully leaving me to think more easily regarding the task in hand. I often get bogged down deciding which of my gear I should dig out and wire up, by which time i've lost the initial impetous. Glad to hear you plan more videos 👍

Too much gear is a real issue! We get so swept away with all the potential all this gear has that it bogs us down and we end endlessly toying around. Minimal is good~ I’m glad you’ve enjoyed.

This was a fascinating watch Yukes, I love how thorough you are. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make this. I've been eyeing the QY70 for a long while, particularly because a lot of my favourite artists used it to create to create some of their best songs (e.g. Bjork, Bat for Lashes). Also having a portable standalone device with so many instruments, effects, adsr and even EQ and mixing capabilities does hold a strong appeal for me. I struggle to find a device these days that packs such a punch in terms of versatility and usability, even if the sound quality and instruments aren't the best. Thanks so much again :)
