I reckon the bigger firebox is good. Better than the smaller portable ones. Not so much to get it hotter, but to burn a bigger peice for longer. A CO2 sensor might be a good addition.

Been looking at doing something like this with army tent you can get from aussie disposals to use as a base camp. Good video, great creativity in use of materials.

Nice video, but who brings a laptop hiking with him? And then crying about it for 5 min of the video. No mater how many bags you wrap it in. It will get wet or damp in this weather condition.

For the roof penetration use cheap allot oven trays one on inside and one outside silicon and rivet together with the material inbetween like a gasket and use a silicon “deck tight “ riveted and siliconed on outside , that will water proof it better than what you did and shouldn’t cost more than $20.00 2 trays from salvos $2.00 each 1 tube silicon $5.00 1 decktight $10.00 ,sorry I just checked the price and they are now $20.00 So $27/30.00

Bought an oztent and thought I’d try a night at Thredbo diggings for the first trip at the end of May a few years back. -10°C that night on a uninsulated, self inflating mat and a cheap sleeping bag 🥴 Could’ve done with that stove.

Do you think that starlink has replaced these units now for remote travel.
@OutbackMike
@OutbackMike 7 күн бұрын
Only if fitted. There much bulkier and don’t think many people have them in 4WD’s yet. But Starlink is becoming available on mobile phone via text. This will change the game.

Just finished watching Alone Austraila season 8 with you, didn't know it was possible to swear so much - must have burnt at least 5k kcal. You would have won if u weren't so unlucky with the traps and medical! Also a sidenote on your yt, you have great content and the filming is awesome too. I believe you could pull a lot more viewers if you rethink your thumbnail game a bit :)

How is it in rain and wind? Battery life?
@OutbackMike

Battery life is good. I don’t know how long because you do many small flights instead of one long one but I got 10-20 flights out of one battery.

Vey comprehensive, thank you. Would like to see a follow-up since it's been 8 months. This unit has suddenly become the best value amongst the 2048Wh competition when solar panel is factored in, given that iTech is currently doing a bundle with free 300w panel - all the others around that capacity are 200 or 220 for $600-800ish (and of course come out of China not Aus). Just on the battery capacity though - the iTech website specs page is saying this unit is 2048Wh, not the 1997 mentioned in your vid. Has the spec changed?
@OutbackMike
@OutbackMike 10 күн бұрын
Thanks Bill. I’ll do a follow up when I use it more. I’ve been doing overseas adventures mostly so couldn’t bring it with me. That will change next year. Not sure about the spec change sorry.
