About twisting the assembled cube to solve or scramble: When you twist it in the middle, what forces the star-shaped core to always stay axis alligned, when the pieces line up into a perfect cube shape again? A 3x3x3 has each middle piece directly connected to the core and this way keep alligned. But at the 4x4x4 the arms of the core point to where the corners of 4 middle pieces meet.
