Orbea opened "Orbea's amateur jai alai" in Miami back in the 70's- 2 hardball and 2 rubber ball courts- it was always full of players and spectators- I had some of the best times of my life there- he would come on the court s'times and play with us smoking a cigar and made that ball do whatever he wanted without even trying, so I became a fan of the sport forever, thanks to him.

I always wished I had been born 10-15 years earlier so I could've seen many of the greats. I wasn't able to even enter a fronton until the end of '85 when I turned 18. I missed most of the greats. Thank you for posting this and all of your other videos.

Arra II was such an "elegant" athlete. So enjoyed watching Carlos Arrasata play on the Orlando-Seminole roster during the mid-1980s when Orlando and the Tampa fronton had an exchange program. He was the back-to-back wins and singles champion, as well as emerging as a superstar on the Tampa roster. Arra II's powerful right-side rebote was a difference-maker in singles.

I would've given up when it was 22-11. We had players in Miami (Asis and Benny) that had this kind of serve consistently, but they outlawed it because it was considered a cheap shot and the crowd would start booing them, as there's really no defense for it when you're playing singles, unless you're in the Nba!

Can you still play rubber ball at Miami Amateur? There used to be two rubber ball courts and a regulation court, what is there now?
@flusyndrome

Yes you can, I know they play for sure early saturday morning but other times too, in the medium court. The small old rubberball court and the big hardball court are now gymnastics schools.
