They got pasted by the Klingons though. The federation didn't care to conquer or even dismantle them. They just wanted it to stop and dedicated the bare minimum to contain it. By comparison when the federation faced actual existential threats from the Borh and dominion their technology, tactics and will to fight surged. The cardassians were so minor they couldn't wake the bear. They thought they were a major player, tried to stir the pot and were instantly sidelined and squashed as the giants fort.

In my professional opinion, the Victory Class Destroyer or (Destroyer Class White Star) is the most elegant and sophisticated warship ever made. I was aggravated that Crusade was cancelled before it could finish it's story. I just wish we could see more of the Victory Class.

Tasha Yar 4) Xenophobia & Paranoia; They notably distrusted outsiders and Spock even refers to this in "Balance of Terror" when stating; "if these are long-lost cousins, as I believe they are then we must strike first. To not would be seen as a sign of weakness," and the reintroduction in "The Neutral Zone" refers to them as "coming from a century-long isolation" while their "first" appearance in "The Minefield" treats the NX-01 as if the crew was spying on them

I believe the Borg, have better weapons and one reason they are less likely to use time travel as a weapon is to their better understanding of time travel and are weary of the unforeseen consequences of using it.

The Vulcans are members of the Federation, and the Romulans are not more technologically advanced than the Federation. Romulans have slightly better weapons and combat technologies, but that is because neither the Vulcans or the Federation in general are militaristic the way the Romulans are. The Federation is more advanced in computer technology, medicine, shielding, sensors, transporters/replicators, etc.

Did they know the ancients? They must have seen the stargate construction on other worlds within the milky way galaxy. Why did they not explore the gates as they had military power to defeat most foes. Did the ashards not get tempted to mess with the human development as they gad their own species.
