I had a similar electric cello and designed and 3D printed pieces including new chest rest and upper and lower bouts (had to saw the old ones off, which was a huge leap of faith), and use an external piezoelectric pickup to completely bypass the horrible built-in electronics. Because of the 3D printed pieces and how I mount them (designed to be removable) the cello now packs very small and is easy to get back to playable form in a couple minutes. I can actually store the cello, adjustable chair, stand, and external amplifier in the trunk of my 2004 Mustang (not known for trunk space). I mostly use if for practice to not disturb others, but will bring it out for informal concerts and other venues. Draws a lot of interest from people who might not otherwise be interested in cello.

I play a cecilio electric and I bypassed the electronics by connecting the piezo to one of the headphone jacks. I use a guitar pedal to give it distortion. I also reshaped the bridge for easy action. Overall I really like it. I used it on a big rig and can play inside or outside blasting over the engine. I think it is a great way to play cello in places I would not want to take an accoustic.

What I'm hearing from a lot of people is that with adaptations, it's not such a bad instrument. I'll admit I have no technical know-how for how to convert it from its boxed state into one that worked for me, but I'm glad it does for you. And playing on a big rig? That's awesome 👌 👏 😁

@@fromwithin8916 I made a video on how to modify the cello. I did not show how to carve the bridge. I used a 20 dollar rotary hand tool from walmart. My cello is not vegan but I recommend going vegan. I just drank 1 ounce of apple cider vinegar in 12 ounces of ice water 4 times a day and even after falling on my elbow 2 times it removed my inflammation. It also helped with my rash and acne!

The way that cello encourages thumb clamping is a recipe for tennis elbow and other repetitivee strain injury. Definitely avoid the cheap electrics. It isn't worth it.

Hi, thanks for the comment. Yeah, I heard those too. I find that with the electric cello, since the sound goes directly into the bridge and the pickups, there's absolutely nowhere to hide when it comes to pitch, whereas with my acoustic cello, the resonance of the body and reverb from the room gives a little more leeway. Funnily enough, in my headphones while recording, it sounded great, even in the loops, but on playback the notes that were off sounded much more prominent. In the video, after recording the third loop, I give a little smirk because according to my headphones, I'd nailed it. I've never worked out why the sound in my headphones while playing is different to the sound that is recorded. Often it sounds really alive while playing and the recording sounds quite dull and lifeless, despite using the same headphones, same audio interface. But yes, long story short, I need to work on my accuracy 🙂

Awesome progress at both 1 week and 2.5 years! I know I wasn't nearly this good at either of these points. An easy thing to improve for now is try to remember to keep your left elbow nice and lifted. I still have an issue with this after playing decades if I'm tired, haha. But it does help to get a better angle on the strings.

pretty good for an adult learner for 2.5 years. clean shifts, okay vibrato.. good job!<3 keep learning my only large piece of advice would be your bowing and dynamics. i wish there was more phrasing and tension, and your bow skidded alot. which i know doesn't matter for electric i guess, but it's good to sharpen that technique. i advise to learn a piece on the acoustic, then play on the electric kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aMhxmLp3rrvMpX0.html here's a good reference video!

I think every cellist has their own little quirks and tics, head movements, facial expressions, etc., some more obvious than others (Sheku Kanneh-Mason is quite distinctive in that regard). For me it comes unconsciously and automatically. I did a recent video using a wah peddle and it was only afterwards I realised how I'd echoed every wah sound with my face 😳 Enjoy the cello. I took up cello at 60. I also played guitar and arthritist is my problem also. I have a good teacher but i don't get to practise as much as i should but i am getting there.i am 71 now and about to reach 8th grade . I ended up makeing my owne short scale cello, 655 instead of 690 mms with 4/4 size body. My teacher appoves of it and it helps with small hands and arthritist. I might be slow but i will be a cellist before i turn 75. Good luck.
