The housing problem is also very prominent in the Netherlands. In Amsterdam in the 1990s, houses became investments rather than places to live. Landlords are not landlords but big foreign companies that don't care about people, and our politicians allow this.

I have lived 2 and half years in Dublin during which I did a Master's degree and worked for a tech giant. My partner worked for the same tech giant. Among our colleagues, we were considered fortunate because we had a studio apartment. It was overpriced, damp, only 16m2 and a literal mushroom grew in the corridor at one time. However, most of my colleagues shared their flats, and sometimes their bedrooms with strangers. Not having your own bedroom as a working adult is unacceptable. One had to deal with a cockroach infestation and the landlord tried to have him pay for the extermination. When I left, I had fairly severe asthma, I was constantly coughing. 5 years later, I exhibit no sign of asthma.
