I am going to have quite a bit of content coming out about learning languages with music later this year, along with posting covers in different languages, as I’ve been studying languages with songs so much the last few years 😊 Stay tuned 😊

I am using Lingopie. They have subtitles and if I don’t know a word, I can click on it and it tells me. I’ve learned a lot reading things over and over. I believe this program has comprehensible input no matter what ur level is. Just a thought

Thank you so much for your wonderful story about Japan and the Japanese language.

I do not usually comment on videos. I am just a pretty private person and find the internet, or, communicating on it, to be intrusive, but I had to comment on your example with Babbel. I consider myself a fairly advanced German learner. I had a few semesters in college, but due to mental health struggles, I did not retain much. Last July, I revived my German, and since I am unemployed, and have massive amounts of time on my hands, I was able to put in five to seven hours a day. That being said, I went back to an early lesson on Babbel, and found out that the last word in German compound words is the one we refer to when deciding what the article for that word is going to be. I know you understand what I am saying, and I do not feel the need to make it any clearer. So, yes, I agree with you. I also learned how to read German prices through an early video meant for beginners in German. I have found that early on, especially regarding grammar, there is so much potential anxiety about having to understand and then retain what you are being told, because you are not comfortable listening to the language, that coming back to a beginner lesson, while already advanced, just allows you to fully absorb the message or lesson. That is my two cents. I have enjoyed your videos for some time and I am glad that your situation seems to have improved from your early years in the game of language learning. Be well.

I'm trying to learn Mandarin for fun via Duolingo. I'm not sure if I'll really be able to speak and understand it. For now, I'm just having fun :D This is very inspiring! Thanks for sharing!

It's so nice to see you in the comments, @plainlysimple! I think for me, for some reason I never got very good retention from Duolingo in the past. But it's fun and is good at keeping you motivated, so I would say keep going if you're having fun :D but longer-term, if you find yourself wanting to improve more I'm always happy to help guide you to new things! Good luck, and 加油!

@@RobinMacPhersonFilms Yes, it's fun. It's like a game 😄 Yes, long term I probably would look for a mandarin tutor locally to take it further. But for now I'll stick with Duolingo, still having fun with it 😄 I like what you were doing here, writing the characters. I haven't done that yet. I will try that on my next session. You have learned 8 languages 😳 wow that's the goal.

Que tal? Muy bien.. For me, not so well. My husband died last year, but I am hanging in there with the help of my languages. I also started sharing Spanish with my friend. We are doing 3 words a day in Spanish. It doesn't sound like a lot, but with the grammar it makes a full lesson.

I just seen this video! you are ACE! ...but have an accent: for English, as a non native language, the truth is if you did not have a parent that was anglophone or did not go to an English speaking school when from a very young age, you will have a foreign accent. Thank you for having hugely inspired me to re-learn the power and usefulness of languages . AND AS MUCH that to do a language because it can make one happy! Merci de tout coeur! Dabbing can then lead to one or two languages, or more, that really might hone your time and energy to learn them because you discovered their inner beauty or/and identity within some cultural or specialities that some country(ies) do. 👍💜

I learned good German in 6 months. To really learn a language one has to listen and talk with people. That’s how you really learn. Now depending how stubborn you are, you can do it quickly or more slowly.

I've also learnt languages using personal methods. Robin MacPherson's approach emphasises independence in language learning. While some actively seek out opportunities to speak, he prefers a more organic process. I can relate to this as I prioritise developing a basic level of fluency independently. My own language learning experiences, such as becoming fluent in Italian during a month in Italy, are consistent with this approach. MacPherson's reluctance to impose language practice on others, such as Japanese exchange students, reflects a respect for their learning goals. Instead, he focuses on self-improvement until he feels ready for real interactions. His method involves constant repetition, sentence manipulation and thoughtful discussion with himself about emotional content. This approach fosters independence and confidence, preparing learners for meaningful interactions when the time comes. It's a refreshing perspective that empowers learners to take control of their language journey at their own pace.
