I remember enlisting at 18 thinking the army was going to be the big adventure. Ladies love uniforms. Turns out that fantasy gets dispelled fast when a bullet almost catches you. And you spend 5 minutes convincing yourself it’s not real.

My grandfather fought both in Europe and in the Pacific during WW2 and my uncle served in Vietnam. My grandfather use to say war was hell within hell. The things those men saw and did, unless you were there, we will never understand it.
