If any home roaster can't roast at least 226 grams, not worth having.

After 180 roasts with my Hottop using Artisan I finally tried an automated roast based on a roast profile, thanks to this video. My first attempt didn't work except for ejecting the beans since I didn't have the alarms set properly. I made the necessary changes and was really happy to see the roaster changing the heat and fan settings along the way. Thank you!

Hello! Thank you for the explanation. For Castillo variety (Colombia), would you recommend a natural, washed, or honey (red honey)? I lean more towards fruity coffee and don't like too much acidity... and for the specialty coffee I drink them as espresso...

You can't use this indoors in my opinion. Too smoky and the smoke is unpleasant. I roast on my back patio with the fan on.
@CoffeeRoasting
@CoffeeRoasting Ай бұрын
It depends a bit. The amount of smoke is related to the amount of beans as well as the roast degree. Often a good kitchen vent is still working fine with the Hottop. But I personally also roast outdoors if possible.

Early on, I "lost" several roasts that took a while to get all the way into first crack; even using the + button I couldn't get the timer to extend long enough to finish out first crack. It was incredibly frustrating! Only after I found the manual mode information and what "C" does, was I able to get reliable full roasts. I've roasted the way Mr. Behm advises here for years now and found he's absolutely spot on with this advice. Now with an additional 1600+, I've launched a successful coffee roasting startup and have been able to share delicious coffee with more people and make enough to reinvest in neat experimental extras, like barrel aging!

So it looked like when you added the beans, "charge" was marked automatically. I'm finding that sometimes happens, but not always. Also, when you finished the roast and ejected the beans you simultaneously marked "drop". But can't that be done automatically? It seemed at first this was happening with my Hot Top setup at first, but not now. Doesn't Hot Top report a drop signal to Artisan? I prefer nearly all beans to be roasted at least a few seconds into second crack (unlike what you are doing) and would like to accurately record the time into SC. It's hard to do when you have to manually click on "drop" after ejecting.
@CoffeeRoasting
@CoffeeRoasting Ай бұрын
The roaster doesn't send a signal, Artisan is detecting if there are unusual drops in the temperature. If you want to be in the safe side, you better mark the events manually

Thanks a lot for your feedback. You are totally right. The two machines are the same in hardware and you have the possibility to do the exactly same with both machines. The big difference is, that the LINK comes with meanwhile more than 700 roasting profiles. Therefore you will have a perfect roast without having to understand roasting. On the other hand, it's so granular, that those taste differences are only to be tasted by people with high sensory skills. The machine is being used successfully for competitons where those small differences matter. In my experience, the profiles you get for the Kaffelogic Nano by the Kaffelogic team as well as by the community are already on a superb level that is higher than for any other roaster out there.

You are right, it's the same hardware and you can do the same with both machines. The big difference is, that the LINK comes with more than 700 roasting profiles that will allow you to roast competition grade coffee withough having to understand roasting at all. The Nano comes with 12 profiles but in the community you can already also find a lot of additional profiles. So for most of the people and even more so if you like to get an understanding on roasting profiles, the Nano is good enough. But the Link just takes a lot of work from your shoulders if you don't want to invest time in finding a perfect roasting profile.

@CoffeeRoasting
@CoffeeRoasting Ай бұрын
The most common issues are: - not the right USB port chosen - you will find a video on that in our challen - not the most actual Artisan version (some were buggy but quickly fixed) - the USB cable is not good. Try another one - as Mac user, the connector between notebook and USB is somehow not working on this machine. Try another one - you have electrical interference. In most cases machines like vents that were plaeced close to the machine were causing electrical interference and disturbed the connection Please let me know, if any of those helped.

Great video on Liberica. I picked up some Philippines Liberica Batangas greens last year and roasted them on my Bullet. I recognize this is an older video, but based on my limited knowledge of Artisan so far, for the part of alarms you said you don’t use, it would actually be useful - basically, in the “IF ALARM” you can add a conditional statement so that something won’t happen unless a previous alarm happened. So you could refer to Alarm 1, meaning ‘only do this alarm if Alarm 1 has already been triggered’. It just adds an additional level of This/Then statement but can refer to a previous step. I was hoping to find out how to actually have the power and air steps record their numeric value on the chart instead of just the graph of the heat and air. For example, if I turn my heat to 80, I want the graph to actually say 80. I’ve seen other Artisan graphs that show this but I cannot find the feature to turn it on. Thanks.

The general info is the one we gave you in the video. For individual detailed questions you would need to figure out yourself or get an expert for venting in your area. There should be so providers for that in your area since all restaurants,... need those kind of solutions.
