What’s the last name of Greg from Turner mentioned around 32:50? I’ve got a project with Turner right now that could stand to have some outside eyes for their QC work.

So air leakage and thermal bridging are the main problems Helen Sanders sees in curtain walls. And from 33:00 - 36:00: We are going to coin a term right now, and that term is Thermal Chic!

That's brilliant Adrian! Thanks for sharing 👍 Just tried this at home, and I seem to have a slight tint on the outer most Surface 1 😅 So can likely expect coating/film deterioration over time due to the extreme heat we have here!

I have so many questions. What is low-e? Why does it matter? What does IGU mean? VE2M? Does 'number 2 surface' mean the backside of the front pane? A closeup would be good to demonstrate the difference Edit: Just noticed 'insulating glass unit' in the description

Hey Brendan. Low-e stands for low emissivity, which basically means it is a coating that limits the amount of solar radiation that passes through the glass. Thus keeping the heat out. And yes, Surface 2 is the back of the front external pane.

Hello Adrian, I hope you are well, thank you very much for sharing your point, would you please explain more about the minimum radius and glass thickness, I think that number you mentioned is more. of course, it depends on the manufacturer's devices.

Yes, it's great to pair up Passive building certification with a broader green building certification program. Did you know that the Phius conference this year is going to be within the USGBC's Greenbuild conference? Also, great to hear those insights on large building air tightness QA/QC!

Agree with Sameer 100%. One great thing about being in architect who specializes in building enclosure technical issues is that our amount of time per project is smaller than a generalist architect who has to oversee all aspects of design thru construction administration, so we get to see a lot more projects, and our learning is accelerated. We can bring our expertise to other architects and add a lot of value based on things we have seen in other projects.

How about I-beams that are 2" thick penetrating the envelope and going out, say, 50 feet - will 3" thick mineral wool wrapping the beams for the first 3 feet out from the exterior wall prevent condensation on the beams indoors? On 2" thick steel? Trying to escalate discussing that risk on a project right now.

Detail is probably incorrect due to risk of thermal bridging at sealant area Normally you see insulation in line with glass to prevent from such a scenario however I guess design fallows architectural design that could be wrong too unless there are other reasons I cannot see from this one detail Thanks for the content 👍🏻

4) One other important function of secondary sealant is to effectively share the structural loads between the outer and inner panes. The bite, thickness and its ratio must be properly designed and calculated. Sidenote: The place where the IGU was manufactured vs where it will be installed (climate, barometric pressure) affects the cavity loading as well. This is a very informative video. Thanks!

Not understanding last two when you can fill the void using foam the only thing in uk the preference is to not to use combustible insulation so that would have to be something like shaped mineral wool or it’s none combustible equivalent Anyway thanks for allowing comments under your movies I’d like to see more talks here and on LinkedIn 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
