I just got my 5SE yesterday. How would I align during the day for solar viewing. I have a Spectrum Solar Glass. I plan to go to the eclipse in a couple weeks.
@seankelly82164 ай бұрын
Hi There. You will need to align to the sun. Before you can do that, you will need to allow the telescope to point at the sun. Check your manual to see where the "Sun Menu" is located. Always be sure to install the solar filter before you align with the sun. When you do a "Solar System" align, you can use the sun. Point the telescope at the sun, watch the shadow and make the shadow as small as possible. When you have the sun in view, press Enter and Align.

Thanks, very useful for a novice 5SE user. I also have a SkyQ Link 2 WiFi Module, do I still need to align the scope when I first use it or will the module do that for me automatically? Thanks again...
@seankelly82165 ай бұрын
Hi Doug, Sounds like the SkyQ will allow you to do the alignment with your cell phone. I don't have any experience with it, so please let me know how you like it.

You cant adjust the clock on the web version. I used it as a sort of clock for different locations to know if the sun was up in a given place or not on my PC back in tne day. I find it so very annoying and frustrating.

Hi Augustin, here is a link to the PDF. To know the time by stars, you would need a star table with rise/set times and also your longitude. drive.google.com/file/d/1DWGX3ALxczOWHFQnoewVUXVwPXIClCQ3/view?usp=sharing

I use a 1.25” if you want to though you can get an extension to make it a 2” but I wouldn’t recommend it
@Nottsboy242 жыл бұрын
Kamram Pipekesh.....you can use a 1.25" or 2" in diameter attachment. As for alignment a 25mm eyepiece is ideal for aligning a telescope. Once aligned you can fine tune alignment by using a low powered 10mm eyepiece 🔭

That is NOT military time!!! It is 24 hour time, which most of the civilized world uses. The ancient Egyptians figured that out long before any military did.

Is it absolutely necessary that the one leg of the tripod has to be pointed towards the north? None of the tutorials I have watched is telling me to do this and I am getting inaccurate alignment every time.
@seankelly82163 жыл бұрын
Not at all Stargazer. It is for our astronomy lab, so that when we put away the 8 telescopes, that we have room to fit them all. You can ignore this, but make sure that the scope is level. If you do not have a bubble level for your scope, pick one up for under 5 dollars. It will make the scope track much more faithfully.

No it's not for an Alt-Az. If you were using the equatorial wedge, it absolutely would be.

Looks like that two star alignment is easier to use than the standard 3 star alignment. I bought a set of "Bobs knobs" to make culmination easier. I can't imagine trying to do culmination with a philips screw driver to a philips screw head in the DARK with ONE EYE! I have no depth perception so I can't see WHERE the screw is in relation to the screw driver! With "Bobs knobs" I just look through the eyepiece & using my Left hand adjust the screws until I get a nice bulls eye around the star - EASY!
@skellygmailcom3 жыл бұрын
If this were my personal scope I would put Bob's knobs on, but students get a little excited using the scopes and it would definitely cause some maintenance issues for me.

It's an Orion finder with a crosshairs. Pretty easy to swap out the old red dot finder and replace it.
@sheilachambers66713 жыл бұрын
@@skellygmailcom I can't even use that red dot "finder", I have but one eye & the manual says "using BOTH EYES"~! So I had to WAIT until I could get a finder SCOPE & a Telrad finder which works much better than that red dot with that "Ruby red" coating on it's glass so that less light get's through & the color red is rejected! I'm still waiting for the finder scope & our weather is CRAPPY!

Hey mate, I’m thinking of buying this telescope, how is the scope? What can you see?
@skellygmailcom3 жыл бұрын
Hi SK, It's a great telescope for new astronomers. We use them for our school lab course and they have been very reliable and durable. I would recommend the auto two star alignment when observing as it gives the most consistent and reliable orientation when looking for dim objects. It is a 5 inch telescope, so you will need a camera to see more subtle nebula and galaxies, but it is great for looking at the moon, planets, stars, clusters and anything else in the sky.

By the way, in response to the question about fusing 56-Fe + 4-He --> 60-Ni, it is true that Iron is not the "maximally stable element" (notice that I didn't say maximally stable). However, it's also true that it's not energetically favorable for a star to fuse past Iron. I think 60-Nickel is actually stable. A cleaner answer is that the energetics are *almost* neutral, especially when taking into the more complicated physical processes, so you can’t support the entire star on Fe + Alpha fusion. You need way too much fusion to support a star’s core, and there are competing decay and photodisintegration and fission processes which break up the nuclei. I very much like the second answer given in physics.stackexchange.com/questions/80256/why-cant-iron-fusion-occur-in-stars

Hello Professor; I hope you are doing well. I miss being in the planetarium. It seems much harder her on zoom. It seems my grade has gone down so much and I am not happy because I need to transfer and it will make my GPA go down. I appreciate you and your time you have put in this.

Hi Irene, You are doing fine. Don't forget that much of your grade comes from the work that you have done in the class (workbook) and you have been very consistent. Just try and catch up on the lectures and you will be fine. Best wishes!
