Glad to see you had bear spray ready in hand. I wonder if the bear had been sprayed previously and saw you coming closer with it, and made a hasty retreat. I hope I have it handy if ever needed.

How stupid do you have to be to walk towards your bag nd grab it now what if that woulda set the bear off approaching it materials can be replaced your life cant it wont hurt to leave nd come back after they pass

I'd be scared (I've hiked in Glacier). But it looked like the bears were scared and not too hungry.

You do realize by all accounts and classes you should have hit the spray soon as the bear crossed that dry patch.

The minute he grabbed the pack sack he became a much larger object to the bear. Key reason why appearing as large as possible is so important with bear encounters.

i just got back from camping at watkins glen, ny & one morning at 5:30 i woke to someone behind my tent, right where my head was, & i looked up behind me & there was a bear snout pressed against my screen. i didn't panic or anything, i just looked & it left, then i started freaking out & worrying about it coming back. you hear all those stories, or used to, of bears ripping tents apart & murdering the occupant, but luckily those thoughts didn't come right then. & i settled down. but your encounter was fabulous. wow! i'm so glad for yous, it's a thrill & a privilege isn't it?

Precisely what you’re not supposed to do. As soon as you see a grizzly that close you should pick up your pack and slowly walk away. Standing there and letting them get closer and closer is dangerous.

Damn, the power when they ran away. A good reminder of how wild they are and how screwed you are if they decide to channel that your direction.

I live 100 miles from glacier and have spent a lot of time in both glacier and yellowstone - it's VERY noticeable how many more grizz/brown are inside the parks. Makes you wonder how many are getting shot outside the park since i never see them in the national forest land. I know some must be there but it's much less.

Personally , I can’t fathom the level of common sense people who travel into grizzly country unprotected, talking like they are meeting a Disney character as the only way they have to pacify a potential A ++ predator.. absolutely boggles my muind.
