It's most of the time just the cache file going corrupt, so deleting the media cache will generate a new one. (Or find the file in your cache and just delete that one.)

Fantastic video. I’m glad I found your channel

I just had a weird instance where the audio on a clip played correctly and matched the separately recorded audio for the clip, BUT!!! The waveform shown for the audio clip DID NOT match the actual audio. I tried the first fixes mentioned above, and the waveform was still wrong. The fix was to close the project, Delete ALL media cache, wait for Premiere Pro to restart, reopen the project, then wait for Premiere Pro to regenerate the audio waveform.

Deleted the media cache as only one clip was showing waveforms. After restarting, now none of them are. Thanks a lot!

The audio clip is still really hard to read in 2020. In older versions of Premiere, you could see the actual waveform better.
