I finally gave my horse away last week (5ok dressage horse that I completed to national finals level) bc I couldn't save him from negligent boarding barns. My list of negligence is too long to list here but for years I fought absolute disaster despite I had an unlimited budget. I moved multiple times. I finally realized there was no where left to go. 2 barns failed to feed his ulcergard while he had ulcers. Forgot farrier appointments. Found my horse with a huge cellulitis leg my first day back after I had covid and I had to rush him to the vet til 1am that day. No hay was always a big deal. Found horse dripping with sweat nose to tail in stall after dinner, horse was so frightened he ran into the stall wall when I opened the stall door. Found his halter and lead broken on this door and they were using something else. They let me find that on my own. Later found out they had an electric fence incident with him! Left him like that so hot in his stall eating grain! Found my horse at pasture with a muck bucket used for water, sitting on this side empty, heater with open coils sitting in mud smoking, it had burned clean through the bottom of the plastic muck bucket! It's cord was chewed and expose wires. That place fed only round bales even in the stall so he lost weight, the topline sank and my saddle no longer stayed up while riding! His feet stopped growing, his feet started rotting in the deep mud and no sawdust in the concrete floor/matted stalls, his sulcus rotted and got deep so there was not much sole between sulcus and coffin bone and a crack across his sole, causing over $1k in x ray shoeing and a metal pad to protect his rotting foot! The next day he was turned out in 37 degrees overnight in slick mud and high winds!!! his $1k shoe came off. I spent 12k in unecessary medical bills on grade 2 ulcers from stress and lack of hay in 10 months (diagnostics and treatment). Only a dusting of sawdust was used and got laughed at that my horse laid "right in it" and got yellow stains dripping off his white coat. Where was he supposed to lay? His coat was the only thing absorbing his pee. I offered to pay more for extra bedding -no. So I was always body clipping as he was fully soaked in urine. Got full out yelled at while my horse had ulcers because he would not stand still for me in the crossties while I groomed his belly!!!! I was told he needed to "stand tied." WTF. How about we have some grace while my horse is treated for ulcers? Yeah he's not gonna be happy while grooming. Those are just a few stories from the past few years. I finally had to call horse ownership quits. No where can provide the basics anymore even if you'll pay thousands. I'm mentally exhausted and filled with anxiety now and need to heal from so much abuse, walking on eggshells and just being made to feel I don't matter. Years of battling to save my young show horse was about the death of me.

First of all, HUGE hugs to you!! That all sounds so awful, and also, I have been on my own journey through this as well, while my details may be different, the frustration and stress and sadness of seeing your horse deteriorate and be in danger no matter how hard you try is the same. I am so so sorry you had to sell your horse over this, and also I COMPLETELY get it. I often have that thought when I’m struggling with bad boarding situations. It feels untenable long term. I’ve seen it at all price points, so like you said, even when spending the big bucks, that doesn’t necessarily mean your horse is safe from neglect. I got kicked out of a barn last year, because I asked to pay extra to have our horse (who is black by the way) in a pen with shade during 100 degree weather. She didn’t even have a tree or a wind break or anything, just a dirt paddock. It’s not unreasonable to ask for the basics, water, feed and shelter. Horse care really isn’t complicated. Everybody is always talking about “bad boarders” and I get that it’s a tough industry and hard work, but I’ve seen SO many more bad barns than bad boarders in my time… and bad boarders don’t usually kill horses, they’re just annoying, I’ve seen bad barns kill horses, cause thousands in vet bills and cripple horses for life. I hope you get some rest and peace and that your horse is in a great new home and thriving. Sending love 🩷

Hello, thank you for great review! A few days ago I ordered this saddle and can't wait for it to have a try. I have two ponies, one is as tall as yours but my other one is a bit taller/higher. This smaller pony is really ....well.... let's say "over sized" in his weight, what is another struggle while choosing a saddle. Like no withers (....there have to be some withers but I hadn't find it yet....), wide back, big belly and place for the girth right in the front- not like girth straps on the saddle are placed if you know what I mean. That's the reason why the saddle is going on the front on horse's withers and shoulders. My higher pony get some weight recently as well so the problem with saddles is double for me right now. Maybe I will try to change the system of girth's straps to make it in V or Y system because I don't want to use a dock for long period of time. Well we will see.... Another saddles I consider are Eddix saddles, great looking treeless saddles but expensive and probably too long for my ponies. I have one saddle already from Decathlon, Fouganza saddle for kids, treeless but is not great, gives a bad seat for "riders" and also have the same system of girth straps. All the best for your pony and you!

Great idea young lady. Why I did not think of this, chaa! I have a huge metal water trough that we haven't used in 4 3 years, think it would work for this project. The only concern I have is the plastic electric fence insulators being snapped into when my percheron violently grabs the hay/haynet, especially when net is almost empty. Have you had any breakage or mishaps? Anything you would do differently going forward? Thx 4 the idea!

I purchased a Barefoot Cheyenne treeless for my very wide Appy who’s hard to fit for treed saddle. Personality wise he’s not at all spooky so we don’t have any crazy lateral movements. We have had some crazy fast gallops due to foot races, around corners at full out run (asked to do so) and I’ve never had a problem with my saddle slipping. I can mount from the ground with no movement as well. It does pitch forward but I have adjusted my posture to accommodate for it. For someone with mediocre balance or riding ability it’s definitely not the saddle for you. It does initially cause lower body discomfort in places I didn’t have in a treed saddle but again, I’ve ridden it so much that my muscles have adjusted. Muscle memory like any other saddle. I use western fenders and stirrups with mine to protect my shins from rubbing. It is like bareback riding which my horse likes best and with the Equipedic pad I have, we have lots of spinal clearance.

I sure will! The fleece pad is a Christ Lammefelle half pad. It was for a full size horse, just extra tack that I had in my garage. I cut it down and then stitched the rolled edges to make it the right size for the toddler saddle (not a very tidy job, don't look too close, lol) The Paw Patrol saddle pad is also a DIY job! I have had so much trouble finding small quality tack, I started making my own! Your mini sounds cute!!!! :)

“Camping” bring hay cubes and a bucket to soak them in???? I think we have very different ideas about “camping with horses” They sell a 2.6gallon fold up pail. You can hang it off your saddle and get water for your horse. Around here I wouldn’t want a horse getting down into the steep bank creeks or a pond with 3’ of muddy sludge. Tie a rope to the pail, draw it in and walk it to where the horse is tied off on a high line. Tactical vest/LBV keeps most of your important gear with you! Phone, knife, pistol, small emergency kit. Rope

I’m at a barn rn, where I’m thinking I need to leave.. so on Sundays all the workers get a day off, so u hav go out there and turn ur horse in an out yourself, and muck out the stall yourself. There’s been times where I’ve gone on Sundays where I’ve rlly questioned if my horse had even had breakfast, or lunch-since there wasn’t any food on the ground or anything in his stall when i would come before or shortly after he had been “fed”.. The pastures also don’t hav a lot of grass in them, and most of them hav 55% sand..

Update on my prior comment about the Tough-1 Easy Breather. I got another one with V-strap added. I also added an additional orange strap with a latch to make easier to get on & off (& easier to see), plus strap helps as a backup to the velcro. I put Gorilla tape over the opening hole & only give him a dime sized opening. He can drink with it on. No rubs (need to get a proper fit). It fits face without rubbing & has great opening for nostrils for our heat. So far has not removed again, though he tries. Has held up so far. Guess 3 to 4 years based on time of my prior comment. -- I do have a Greenguard, but let's him eat too much grass. He is super sensitive. I haven't tested it out enough on how holds up, as realized quickly he got too much to eat thru it.

I moved to Yakima and had to sell my horses . I have been riding and an owner of horses since I was three years old my dad sat me on a horse and that was it I was hooked. He bought me my first horse when I was 5 . I had a pinto paint . He wasn’t a small pony like a Shetland but bigger. I out grew him when I was 12 my dad said I needed a more spunky horse so he bought me a thoroughbred horse right off the race track. Sue had a small chip in her right front leg so couldn’t race anymore. She was so spirited she tried racing cars that would go by. She pranced sideways and tucked her head in pride. I’ve had over twenty horses since then . I miss my riding. I see so many horses just sitting in pastures or back yards and not a one horse out there riding. I don’t have space or the money anymore to own my own horse but would love to find someone who is looking to get their horses exercised. I’ll keep you posted . By the way my race horse was green broke ha ha !! So much fun. Better for experienced riders to ride a trained horse do not attempt riding green broke if not experienced. I’ve owned four that were green broke they are unpredictable at times .

@@Ginnyshorseproductreview no I haven’t found horses to ride. It’s just so sad seeing all of them sitting around in pastures not getting attention or exercise. @@denisemiller8474 Oh man, so sorry to hear that! Rather than knock on the door, I actually had good luck putting a letter in somebody's mail box! That way, they can contact you or not if they don't want to. It was for a different situation, I wanted to rent a barn and pasture from a neighbor and left a note for them with a photo of my two horses and a little information about myself and experience. They did call me and rented me the pasture and barn, and it was a good deal too! Maybe a small note about yourself including a photo of you riding if you have one and your phone number! Sounds like that horse would love some attention.

I had to make up my horses feeds myself as I suspected they weren’t feeding my horse. And I was right. When I confronted them they point blank lied. But there were 6 buckets of feed when I left in the evening and still still 6 buckets left the next evening. I also have to book every time I want to use the arena. I’m paying $185 per week, no stable, fences are broken in some parts, there’s no where to saddle up and no where I can store my saddle. Unfortunately there’s not that much around and she knows it
