BESTIE grows on you if you listen to it more than twice. It’s all about the twin vocals and the lyrical sentiment. They dialed back the music to make it more accessible for normal people. I would love to see if you could figure out the bass lines to ENDLESS STORY, the live version.

For sure - I'll have to give Bestie some more spins. Endless Story would be a good one - will have to compare Yokohama to Shibuya and see if there's any difference. I'd also have to see if I can get through it without tearing up - it gets me every time! 😭

The MV shows MISA is all over the neck. True the underlying progression is being followed and the flow can be easily replicated by a relatively novice musician but if you were to isolate her bass you know even competent musicians would have difficulty. Congratulations on the new bass and welcome to the 5 string side.

I got a 5 string not too long ago also. It's nice to directly play downtuned guitar stuff. Plus octave or fifth down is right there to play and those low notes sound so rich.

Yes, not needing to re-tune is handy. I always played my 4-string in drop-D, so getting used to all strings tuned in 4th keeps messing me up!

Not sure if you saw, but Misa just posted on Twitter that they were recording a new song where her part consists of switching between pick and slap every other measure for the entire song. Her remark was something like "what was I thinking?"

Ha ha - no! Even if I had $4K to spend on a bass, I don't like the Jag-style as much as the Jazz-type Black Clouds. What I really want is MISA's pedal board!

Yes - I use a pick often, though I've liked the new bass with just fingers for the most part. Will see how it evolves!

Misaki Fujiwara so undderated man, the skill that she has, and with that BPM crazy riff, sometimes do switch tempo, effect and do some backing vocal even she has a song with she is the main. Thanks to covering this song

Hi PD ! In the course of promoting a rarely heard Band Maid track I thought of you. Unless you own a physical copy of the 2cd version of Unseen World...This track can only be found in reaction videos or on Band Maid Prime . This is, of course, the exquisite YOUTH ! It was featured on the Day of Maid 2021 and also as an MV on the limited edition Sense EP . Wave Potter has the best breakdown of the song...2gen Reactions has a version with lyrics. As I was listening, I thought..." I'll bet PD would love this ! " Venus Gaijin says it sounds like Misa is soloing through the whole song ! Check it out and let me know what you think ! 🕊️

A great cover sir! MISA is at the top of her game and this track is a big challenge even for her. A lot of your difficulty may stem from her ability to pick switch and the lack of a 5th string. Super job though. Thank you.

Youre one of few people who are brave enough to take the challenge of trying to cover one of MISA'S most crazy bass lines. Seeing you work the bass but tell us that it aint easy and you made mistakes and it was too fast makes me respect MISA as a bassist more. It would be nice if she ever released a vid on BM prime covering I Still Seek Revenge so i can get a good look at everything shes doing

Thanks so much for watching and for comment. Yes, a breakdown/tutorial by MISA would be amazing! Mastering her pick-tuck trick also key to replicate her approach. The more I dig into Japanese rock bands, the more amazing bass players I find: Sokoninaru, Memai Siren, Cö shu Nie. Humbling but inspiring!
