Peter Field (here on KZfaq) has one of the best level design overview videos I’ve seen, and GDC has tons of great talks on the topic too. Great progress!! It’s coming along so nicely and that music is so great

Looks like a fun game! I'm curious if you were able to achieve a similar look to your original project in Godot? I'm working on a project and would love to replicate that style, but just can't seem to get the lighting settings right!
@WardiusАй бұрын
@@mulberrytg Thanks! Sure, shouldn’t be that hard. I believe Godot already kind of has that style built in; just search for a toon shader and you’ll find plenty of resources!

This is inspiring, very cool! A little note if I may: if your character squishes when jumping and landing, it won't feel like a rock. I think at some point if that matters to you you should find another way to enrich the animation. :)

I like to see game development. I am also an indie developer, but of 2D games. Well, I found your channel through this video. It's great to see something coming to life, no matter what game it is. What I want to say is that I have some ideas that could make your game richer. I would like you to look at the game (It Takes Two). There is a specific level where the character Cody gains a watch with the ability to change time on certain occasions. He can alter the flow of time, going back frame by frame, as if you were controlling a VIDEO, a RECORDING, going forward by speeding up the frames, or going back by slowing down the frames. As he does this, the other character can use those "debris" as platforms. Another game that has two-time simulations is (Hogwarts Legacy). When using the spell (REPARO), everything starts going back in time and reconstructing as if it were (rewinding a video). Additionally, it has the spell ("Arresto Momentum") that makes everything go in slow motion. Since your game has a stone that manipulates time, think about everything that TIME can do: slowing down, speeding up, rewinding time, among other things. Seek references in other games that use (time) systems as an ability and how it is applied. Moreover, adding visual effects like glow, fog, some particles that visually indicate to the player that part is under the effect of a time manipulation ability will make the game much more lively. Another suggestion I would like to make is if, besides the character manipulating time, he can also manipulate some stones. Imagine these stones floating around him, and he uses these stones to create small platforms in certain places, among other things that could be done with stones. This would make the mechanics and originality of the game even richer. Your character slightly reminds me of (Kirby). Although I love Kirby very much, this stone character can still be made even more beautiful and original. I believe you can make it even more pleasant and original. Another suggestion is to have life in the environment, such as small insects, birds, leaves in the wind, particles in the air. This makes the world come alive as well. Well, that's it. I sincerely hope you consider my words. Much success with your game!
@WardiusАй бұрын
Thanks for your ideas! Many of them are already planned but it's awesome to see that other people like you find them interesting as well. Your ideas for the environment are very good; I'll keep them in mind when I keep working on the visuals for the game. Thanks again! :)

Pebble is made of similar material to the crystals, what of rather than simply having the crystals float above his head when he is holding them they are incorporated into him and change his appearance.
@WardiusАй бұрын
Oh yeah, that's the plan. Currently I only let the blue crystal float because I haven't finished the visuals for them yet. Just so that the player can see whether they are holding a crystal or not. Better than just a text or something I think.

1:05 stylized, very cool art style. simple and absolutely manageable by a solo dev. 2:12 oh god no, sorry. the later results in the cave look okay, but also kind of boring. And it will take a lot of time to texture everything. The flat shaded environment really has something to it. Sure it can be labled as lazy, but it can also create really beautiful environments. Games like Ooblets, Moving Out, Townscraper really rocking the flat and vibrant color look.

what a charming little game. interested in seeing more. how are you able to finance this decision to quit your full time job? Also an idea I had for the roll mechanic. You could make it so that you build up momentum when rolling for a greater distance or down a slope, and when at a certain speed you're able to break a wall or something to progress the level. this could lead to fun level design.
