I'm running a cane creek coil shock with a valt progressive coil on my V2 Ripmo with a cascade link. Like you, the 36 Grip 2 up front started to feel a little lacking. so I got the Vorsprung smashpot coil conversion with HBO. My word, I think I've stumbled upon the holy grail suspension setup on my Ripmo!

That HSC knob is super tight at first but once it breaks in you can move it without the tool. I also felt like the shock was much better as it broke in. I’m 230lbs and love the support I can get with this thing without the harshness that the X2 at 300psi provided. A light rider may not have the same results but that seems to be par for the course with Cane Creek suspension.
@JeffKendallWeed3 сағат бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, I look forward to the knob being easier to turn!

Do you still like the Cascade Components link better than this shock? And would you still be running the link if it fit your bike?
@JeffKendallWeed3 сағат бұрын
I mentioned in the video that the Cascade link makes the Ripmo V2S swingarm contact the front triangle at top out, creating a noticeable clunk. Yes, the shock is better than the link. I think a Float X shock would be my first choice before either a link or a Tigon.

I just bought a used 2022 Altitude with a 36 grip two equipped with a Push Acs3 coil conversion, where the last 30% of the travel is air, which absorbed bumps way better then my air grip 2 38, also is very similar concept that would be the perfect paring for that shock, linear bikes… my altitude works great with a DHx2

I love love love my z1 coil ! I got it "used" new in box off marketplace. For the price i paid its the best performing fork i could get my hands on. Really transformed my bike.

Toss a Grip2 damper in there and crank up the HSC, it'll feel great and have some good support!

Been running Fox 36 with a vorsprung smashpot for one year now/grip 2 damper also... completed a 100mi ride in the gnarliest of terrain and my hands were still begging for more... this has not been the case in the past when my hands have become wrecked after considerably less mileage in the same terrain

Dear Cane Creek please add HBO to the Tigon... pretty please... I'd rather smash into wet sand than smash into a flat basketball

Thanks for all the comments, Mike. I enjoy the Rocky Mtn Altitude a TON, but it's an enduro bike, not a trail bike.

I’m confused with this offering, because everything I’ve read and you say make it seem like an ideal DH shock. And yet they don’t make it in any DH sizes. Perhaps in the future?
@MikeesTexas4 сағат бұрын
Cane Creek builds what could essentially be the ultimate shock to work on nearly EVERY bike on the planet... but yet produces it in VERY few sizes... Dear Cane Creek, take notes from Rock Shox here and produce this in more sizes and you will have more customers

How would u compare this to a standard coil shock such as ohlins, rocksxhox or fox?
@JeffKendallWeed4 сағат бұрын
I have no back to back experience on the Ripmo with coil vs air, so unfortunately, I'd be guessing if I were to report anything to you. My guess is that the Tigon ramps more, but it's only a guess. I don't think any of them will change your life though.

Why not ride a MRP with a progressive spring?
@JeffKendallWeed4 сағат бұрын
I walked out to my backyard just to double check, but unfortunately, none of the trees back there are sprouting MRP shocks with progressive springs.

As a lighter rider (140lbs geared), I've struggled finding good air settings that aren't too harsh. I switched to coil front and rear on a Stumpy Evo with the cascade link last year and I really can't say enough good things about it. I was able to slow down the damper and add slightly higher spring rate, and it feels amazing, plush off the top, supportive in the middle, more predictable like Jeff said and no issues with bottom out with HBO on both. Not sure I'll ever go back to air, just night and day better. RS RC2T with Springdex, and Vorsprung RS Pike.
@JeffKendallWeed4 сағат бұрын
I could see the Tigon being a great choice on the Stumpy, especially if riding the mullet link. I preferred the Stumpy with dual 29" wheels, the slack headtube cup, and the mullet link in back. A bit taller, still slack. The TIgon would help a lot with that.

Loved the video! I also love my Santa Cruz Bronson which I rode today at Opening Day at Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort here in California. I bought the bike last summer. I’m a 60 year old rider who, until this bike, had only owned rigid frames. I’m in another world on the Bronson jumping higher and farther at 60 than anytime previous in my life. The mullet set up works well on switchbacks and berms. I’ve heard the word “tracking” used to describe the feeling of the rear tire following the front. Through gnarly rock gardens this bike feels super stable. Also at higher speeds through the roughest terrain the bike is maneuverable and feels solid. I work as a carpenter and my wife calls me “The Tool Tester” because I break things. The Bronson has been one tough tool! I really enjoyed watching you riding style - a great balance of economy of movement and SPEED! Thank You for the vid! (Now I really can’t wait to ride again tomorrow!)
