Now, why on earth would anyone want to train a rat to do that?
@ShadowTheRat
@ShadowTheRat 4 сағат бұрын
Same reason people train it to dogs - enrichment, bonding, confidence building, etc. All animals benefit from training enrichment, and just because my rats will never be doing free style competitions like a dog would doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy learning some of the same stuff just for fun!

It’s yogurt! All my rats have been pretty into yogurt, sometimes you have to offer it for a few days first so they get over their natural suspicion of new foods, but once they decide to trust it they get obsessed and it becomes the best training and taming treat!

Could you do a step by step tutorial on how you teach your rat certain tricks. It would be so helpful to people trying to train their rats.

Would you recommend a good cage for 3 female rats? I’m not sure if I can continuously have rats so maybe less expensive options are out here but can make a great home for them
@ShadowTheRat
@ShadowTheRat 16 сағат бұрын
Probably the cheapest option is to either buy a used cage (popular cages like the critter nation can often be found used on facebook marketplace or craigslist, or your countries equivalent - most of my cages came to me used and they are still in great shape!), or to make a bin cage. Personally I've used bins in the past and while they do take some time to make you can often make a good sized bin cage that is as large as a single critter nation for ~$20, and as long as your rats aren't big chewers (which in my experience most aren't, although there are always some exceptions) then they work quite well.

As broken hearted as I am at her passing, this video put a smile on my face. She was so funny and spirited and adorable. Thank you for sharing her amazing life with us. I'll miss you; RIP Butter 🐀❤️🌈

ive been wanting rats and mice for a year or so now, but only got mice bc of how much easier they are to care for and how much less space they need. this video made me confident that i wont be able to afford or care for rats for a few more years--at least. they're SOOOO incredibly smart. what takes her 2 seconds to do would take all 8 of my mice a week.
