So, how long does it take to get 5th degree BB? I've been out of it so long, I don't remember anymore.

It's exponential. At black belt, 1st .. that's 2 years about. At 2nd Degree, a good 2 or 3 years. At 3rd, 3 years. 4th, Add 4 or 5. 5th, 5 years. So joint care becomes everything. It's longevity training.

They have a lot of different meanings. Every uniform has the ATA patch on the right side of the chest. You may choose to have a school specific patch on the left side. On either arm there is a patch that can vary from person to person. This one has the songahm star patches, others might have ATA legacy, masters can choose to have a master's patch. The patches on the bottom of the right sleeve denote the level of judging certification for tournaments. The back of the uniform has ATA in the middle and the name on the bottom. If the person has a district, state, or world championship, that will be displayed at the top of the back, if not it will just say "taekwondo"

Tae Kwon do is only good for the kicks. If you go through the system to get a blackbelt its so useless and inefficient.. once you learn the kicks move on to a different style
@paulgorman2801
@paulgorman2801 2 жыл бұрын
>_^ It takes time to get the kicks down. Kicks need control balance and power but you also need to stretch every day to maintain the flexibility needed for higher kicks. Blackbelt means you've gotten the basics down and can apply them (same with judo) and it takes about 4-5 years to obtain a blackbelt in the style (took me 5). Taekwondo is a good base to learn other striking arts. A blackbelt also shows dedication. Most likely, if you have a blackbelt in one art, you're more likely to learn another art to fill in what you need work on. No art has it all. There are many mma practioners that at one point started with taekwondo or karate then transitioned over.

@@paulgorman2801 Agreed. But I mean the system is so inefficient. You take classes once or twice a week for many years. While you practice and polish the entire form which includes punches. If you took the kicks and stretches, and practiced the kicks 4-5 times a week or daily. You'd have a blackbelt's kick in half the time. Tae kwon do is known for their kicks. So its much more time efficient to learn something for punching and striking separately or at the same time.

@@derek8400 agreed, tkd is now known for their kicks because of wtf tkd. that’s why I prefer itf, traditional tkd since they focus a lot on punches, similar to kickboxing.

A 7 isn't that much of a deviation from the other two judges who gave her 8's. If one of those judges scored a 5 and the others scored her 8's and 9's, then I would be raising an eyebrow.

the judges each have a section of the form to judge on, one judge judges the hand technique, another judges the footwork, and the last on judges overall.

@@joestabbin7003 Everyone has their own strengths and if you were attacking her you would feel the power, however when showing techniques full power is not required. I would never speak negatively about your abilities as a black belt as I have never seen you in action. You have also never seen me in action so you could not possibly know what I am capable of. As I prepare to achieve my 4th degree Black Belt in a few months I have worked my butt off and learned many lessons. One of the most important is to control my power, as unless I'm in a life and death situation it is not my goal to injure others which I assure you I have the power to do. I have also learned to not let people like you who hide behind a keyboard and insult others for no reason to bother me this is not my idea of a Black Belt attitude or a behavior I teach my students. So any future remarks in my direction would be a waste of your time as my time is to valuable to waste.

First of all, it's not karate, its taekwondo. I've done both, and I know in karate - starting with the te-waza through all the kata, demonstrating power is key. With Competition poomsae, power, I think, is less important than technical perfection. If it were a belt grading, it would be different.
