Hi Roy I just landed on your channel for the first time but will definitely be back. Wildlife and macro has taken me away from Canon gear but wear and tare has taken its toll on my old body and I'm no longer able to wield the big wildlife lenses and I'd love to have a good reason to buy a used 5Dii, 24-70L and maybe 50mm 1.4. I'll definitely be back.

About the buttons on the 1d or 1ds mark ii. I love them. I wish modern cameras were set up like a 1ds mark ii. I find it so intuitive after a while. You dont even have to think about it and it is a lot of fun tbh. I dont get that much enjoyment out of my other dslrs.

I use the Sigma EF 50mm f1.4 art on my Sony cameras via MC-11 adapter and find it to work natevly. Its an amazing lens that I just can not sell even though I dropped Canon in 2023. It is just amazing and I do not see any reason to update even to the new versions as they require lens corrections. Plus this version is MECHANICAL manual focus.

The corrected image is the 14 mm. Many mirrorless lenses are designed so that the correction is essential. On DSLRs this is not possible as the viewfinder image cannot be corrected. On DSLR lenses the correction is extra.

Help!! Canon 24-70mm or sigma? I'm getting my 5D Mark iii soon and I'm between lenses? I'm stumped because the Canon 24-70 f2.8 doesn't have image stabilization. Sigma does. But from comparison vids I've watched sigma clarity doesn't match Canon until the higher stops. But that Canon price tag for something nearly indistinguishable? Is it worth it? I'm planning to embark primarilyon street photography and also portrait sessions.

You are not losing wide angle to the profile correction. The lens is actually projects an image wider than 14mm, something around 12mm. And after correction the final image is 14mm.

Thank you so much for your comprehensive, and professional review of this lens. I recently decided to take the plunge and buy it. I'll be receiving it in a few days, and I can't wait. You pointed out some very important items. For me, I wanted an "all-purpose" travel lens that focused quickly, has a wide focal range, is light-weight, and of course, SHARP! This lens checked all those boxes. I also have a 14 - 35mm RF lens for low-light situations and wide-angle shots. Of course, I have other lenses in my camera bag that I use when I want to be "creative", but for travel, the 24-105 will definitely "get the job done". Thank you again for confirming that I made the right choice in ordering this lens.

Great real world comparison , i have just purchased the RF 14 - 35 to replace my ageing EF 17-40 which i had to adapt to fit the Eos R . Looking forward to receiving it and seeing how i get on with it. Like you i leave on the lens correction in lightroom so never think about it as a issue , most lenses have distortion to some degree. Glad Canon produced an ultra wide for the RF mount that is rectilinear as being able to use this with my filter kit was a major consideration as a lot of 14mm lenses are so bulbous you can use standard filters with them.

Personally I own the Canon EF 50mm f2.5 Macro lens and it's definitely recommended and it's better than the f1.8 versions. The 50mm f2.5 has the same design as the 50mm f1.8 mark 1 but with much better close up focus macro features. the autofocus will be a little bit slower and more noise but it's just as accurate as the other versions of this lens. the optical performance is nearly the same as all the f1.8 versions and the f2.5 is just a small difference so that's no problem. I think this f2.5 version is the best version of this 50mm optical design

I’ve been shooting with the Canon R5 since it came out but recently started using my Mark IV as a 2nd camera for concert photography. R5 is higher res and a little more dynamic range but when you get a good shot on the 5D, it can be exceptional. Especially with prime lenses and some post processing. It also pairs well with the 70-200. Wide angle shots low key can suffer from noise when you illuminate and use of lens corrections can cause bad moire. And I need to spend time with noise reduction and crushing blacks. 5D is a pro camera that has great colors and tones. Classic shooters can master it and wow people with the photography. The computational photography future with AI software is getting insane but hand people a manual film camera and there’s nowhere to hide. Also, I own the Manfrotto view finder you feature in the video, going to try it for stills. I’ve gotten used to reviewing in the R5 viewfinder.
