As a music illiterate in my 60's I hardly understood a word you said but still enjoyed it! When I first got to know Paranoid Android I thought they'll never be able to do it justice live, so I was completely blown away when I saw this, easily 95 for me! OK Computer is a masterpiece of an album and they didn't settle on that formula, continuing to innovate with Kid A and beyond. The video for this is wild too! A stand out Jools later performance for me is Sleaford Mods, Jobseeker. Cheers.

Fun fact for ya. The bassist for RATM Tim Commerford played this concert with a broken foot in a "walking boot" on his right foot because he said he would rather play through the pain than disappoint the fans and cancel the show. Thats also why you can see a big rug on the stage where he is standing/playing because the hard plastic boot was slippery on the actual stage material. Thats some dedication, much respect!!

I am sure I am forgetting a ton, but the 1st Jools performance that came to mind was Bjork doing Bachelorette.

If you ever go back and watch this performance and when Freddie is done singing We Are The Champions and waiting to end the song you will see a monitor with lights on the stage in front of Freddie. That was used to let the performers know when their 20 minute set was done so they wouldn’t go over. Most performers went over or cut their set short. Queen practiced leading up to the concert with big stop watches. Even with Freddie’s unplanned call and response Roger kept them to within 10 seconds. True professionals.

You need to check out Freddie Mercury’s take on opera/rock with Montserrat Caballe, a Spanish opera diva who was the best in the world at the time. Montserrat and Freddie became very close and loved and admired each other. Listen to Barcelona, How Can I Go On and The Golden Boy. Barcelona was written for the 1992 Olympics.

I can't believe you would have the audacity to slam the drummer! He's as close to Keith Moon as you and I will ever see! Let me guess, you're a drummer?
@MoreMeetArthurКүн бұрын
The difference is The Who suited Keith’s style - Keith played along to Pete’s guitar while John on Bass just let loose leaving Roger to sing freely over the brilliant organised chaos - Saltans is a hit that needs an anchor beat while Mark Knofler is the main man with that riff - More than welcome to disagree with us music is all opinion based Taylor Swift is currently the biggest artist in the world…. Explain that one!

It's almost criminal to have a Beatles shirt on and not be familiar with Radiohead, I consider them kind of like the modern day Beatles or at least for their (my) generation. They evolved just like the Beatles did and pulled an abrupt left turn right after they were being hailed as the saviors of rock and roll and made a radically different set of records. They actually did an entire mini-concert on Jools Holland right around the time they radically changed their sound. It's only about an hour and a half and it's just brilliant and i would love to see someone react to it. It's them at the height of their powers although a lot of people would say that's during the In Rainbows period. The two basement sessions they did are among my favorite things musically ever and they were both after this period so what do I know.

Great reaction - such a memorable performance. This was my era - I was about 18... such memories! Perhaps not your thing necessarily but you're unlikely to see a more impassioned performance on JH than Mary J Blige, No More Drama...2002, it's simply epic. Thank your for your great, honest and educated reactions.

The Jools Holland REM performance. What about looking a bit further back and taking a look at some of the live performances on, The Old Grey Whistle Test. Everyone who was anyone did OGWT. Like everyone who counted. One particularly (IHMO) good performance is, The Tubes, doing, White Punks On Dope.

If anyone ever has doubts about Queen's popularity - they were not billed until after tickets sold out (£25 for all day btw), and yet the entire crowd of 72,000 knew all the lyrics to all the songs, and no doubt a lot of those watching at home too

From 86 to 92 I saw Metallica 5 times at various venues. They always sounded that good. James Hetfield is a chronic perfectionist to a fault in many cases.

Check out The Who at Tanglewood 1970 I Don't Even Know Myself or Isle of Wight Festival 1970. Another more obscure song of theirs, but you'll appreciate the incredible dynamics, and as part of that the controlled chaos of Moon. He goes from full on Animal down to tapping on the rim like A Quick One, but off of insane fills and right back into full bore Moon the Loon and back and forth. Also, fantastic harmonies on that as well. The whole of those two performances is really worth a watch, really. At Isle of Wight, it's 4am in front of 600,000, and the whole festival was powered by The Who's PA, which was really just their stage rig, a stack of HiWatt amps. At the climax of We're Not Gonna Take It/See Me, Feel Me, they turned on giant spotlights they got from an airport supplier to mimic the rising sun that had occurred when they hit that point at Woodstock.

The song is so big and seemingly out of control, it’s hard to take in on first listen, especially live. Ultimately, despite its hard rock feel, it’s a classical piece of music, progressive in nature, requiring familiarity to adequately assess. Excellent reaction, please do more Radiohead, the smile, and or live performance of ATOMS FOR PEACE (with Flea on bass) Cheers!

Seasick Steve’s first appearance on Jools Hootananny is very good, “doghouse boogie” . Broadcast on the 2006/7 show. BTW I think the 2001 appearance of Radiohead on Jool’s show was a better performance of Paranoid Android.

I like the musical intertwining Melodie’s - gave off some hypnotic mystical far east vibes. Ain’t got a bananas what the dude is singing he sounds like he has severe sunburn and is trying to walk with out his clothes rubbing on his burns so yep he’s sounds like he’s in pain - like the pain I’m suffering listening to him. First time hearing this and in my opinion Listening to Radiohead is like trying to negotiate a packed elevator with severe sunburn. I rate this song = finding 1 empty bottle of after sun care but a full bottle of Tabasco , when you need emergency cool soothing! Yup it’s a 1 outta whatever the scale is and yup he’s as bad as Coldplay 😊
