exactly which part of the canal network is this please? ♥

Nope, please give me an old Gardiner engine with oily bits that I have a chance of understanding!

To make twiggy more quiet and controllable i suggest a newer larger 4-stroke outboard from maybe honda

I do love these canal cruises but to make the boat more controllable and quiter i advice a newer slightly larger 4-stroke outboard

Very late (me). Was out of town with a sibling I see twice in a decade, if we are lucky. Saved this until we returned from the cool of San Luis Obispo. Fantastic video and it is amazing to see a tiller that appears to be about as long as a 2 Meter man’s forearm turn your boat on a dime! Size is relative on the small screen of a phone and there was no one to compare it to, standing near so I could be as wrong as I usually am. How long is your boat? I had forgotten about the crane and the cage and the precision of the operator sliding it right over Twiggy. This was entertaining! The boat handled the river just fine. One hopes you will find a decent Honda replacement for just a few dimes, or less. Thank you for taking us along on this adventure!

The first boat is gorgeous. The square sterns on the Collingwood’s are horrible

Nautical semantics: The “tillery thing” is a rudder, and the ‘cap thing on the engine” is the cowl.

The yellow board looks like 5mm thick polypropylene sheet typically used for making signage. Sign makers/vinyl printers make have an offcut they could donate 😊

I had almost forgotten how much work it was to watch you operate locks solo!

The hull looks great. The interior is well designed, but the surface materials don’t look very durable. They would be better off abandoning the mismatched wood, pressboard and thin laminate filler panels. Instead use reinforced HDPE. You can still use wood in areas, but use quality pieces.

How do you know it's nothing? Maybe all those velctro bits are holding the boat together afterall! I'm not a boat enginner so I wouldn't mess with the structural parts like the velctro tape!

This looks too much like a cave. Where I come from, caves=voluntarily going to die in a confusing manner in which you’ll likely never be recovered or rescued (that promise is signed in several different mens blood). So, nope. Well, not anymore for me.

If you're feeling as though the world is a bit heavy going, or maybe you have restricted your access to other people out of simply habit, or perhaps illness has overtaken your life being part of a team or part of a community is always the self restoration you need. Join a local sports team, your local cricket team, or bowls club, a running team or rounders might be your thing, even if you're very old you can go on country walks with various clubs, but one things that's for sure be part of something instead of festering, you'll never regret it. Lovely video with a perfect message.

From what I remember of the boat's previous adventures the engine was a replacement for a stolen one and was pretty solid. I think the previous owner may have made the engine cover look less attractive to thieves...

IWA should take over from CRT - they seem to know more about how to run a canal than the former private trains CEO does
@CruisingTheCut2 күн бұрын
Maybe but the IWA has had about six (maybe more, I'm losing count) chairmen/women in the space of the last year or so, it's quite remarkable. It doesn't inspire confidence in whatever's going on there, sadly.

What is the purpose of the protruding oval grey-ish thing on the hull ?
@CruisingTheCut2 күн бұрын
They're sacrificial anodes which help to prevent electrolytic corrosion on the hull.

Its usually easier to pull 2-3 times slowly without force to "prep" the motor and then with full force. Human tend to to be nervous and pull while the rope is not yet fully inside. As you are moored there is no need to rush. I would recommend to change your steering cable, looks older than clutch and throttle. Remeber you dont have a rudder.

Your candidness is admirable. At times, we all have those ‘introverted paradox’ conundrums about different aspects of our lives. Robbie Cummings uses “pub of the week’ to get in his socialising, so that is one way to do it….though the pubs he likes (jukeboxes, pool, skittles!!!, loud ‘musicians”) would not do anything for me. Mind you, his relationship difficulties, because of his narrowboat lifestyle come out in the wash too. In the end, you have to do what you think is right for yourself.

I got my boat in September everytime we’ve gone out we’ve had a nightmare with the weather went out to sea fishing last weekend couldn’t even get a rod in the water and ended up soaked from waves. Just want a sunny no windy weekend to actually get my moneys worth at this rate it’ll be up for sale

I had a 4 ft barge built by Liverpool Boats in 1987 at Brunswick Dock before that area was gentrified. Did they morph into Aintree Boats?

Yes, I believe they did (or at least, some of the Aintree folks were previously at Liverpool Boats)
