Ahhh the ol paint pucker. Most spray paints have a recoat time if you wait to long check your drying times. If it says recoat with in 20 min. or allow 24hours to recoat. not 23 not 22 it will pucker every time learned my lession painting bike parts

Mr. Meyers: Great fun watching you and your buddies enjoying your hobby. This video kind of proves something I have been wondering about for some time. If you can use a (small) camera and pursue the "action" from on the water. You should be able, with the help of virtual goggle's, to drive your race from that point of view right? You can see the all the course markers etc. etc. I would think it would make the driving better, and for the driver, much more exciting. I will continue to watch your video posts, and again thanks for the fun entertainment. later Dave K.

Love the idea of the strut on the bottom to make it look more realistic, my only question is once you are finished the boat and need to adjust the strut for whatever reason……..do you use anything to seal the area up or is the fitment so tight that water doesn’t get in???? Or do you expect a bit of water to enter the inside of the boat?

The fitment is very snug, but if you do find that you need to enlarge the slot for more movement just put a dab of silicone in any gaps

In relation of the rudder to turn fin, when you flip one of your hydros upside down on your workbench is the fin and rudder equal distance off the bottom of the boat or would the rudder be a bit deeper……. Turn fin deeper????? Building a hydro and was curious as the relation to each other.

My father was the President of the Madison Regatta 2 separate years and Steve David is a good friend of ours. I used to love going to his trailer and getting free jerky haha I’ve been going to Hydroplane races since I was old enough to remember. Many great memories. It’s pretty awesome to see an RC version of the big boys!

That's funny... I sold my hydroplane and bought a Boston Whaler! It's very difficult to get into full size inboard racing, and ghastly expensive, so I suggest you keep your Whaler. But if you're determined to go broke by boat racing, just search through the various APBA hydroplane pages you'll find on Facebook and start asking questions there. There's always one or two old hulls available.

I don't mind at all, but Charlie Brown is a cartoon character and I don't know what's happened to him 🤣. Jaxon Brown was The World's Greatest Shop Dog and without a doubt the greatest friend I've ever had. What happened to Jaxon is what happens to all of us if we live long and hard enough, he just wore out. He and I had an agreement on what his signal to me would be when he was ready to go. It's private, but was unmistakable when the time came. One of the hardest days of my life thus far, but boy oh boy, did we have a great time together while it lasted!

Hey there I’m making a hydroplane but it isn’t the same as yours. It’s a modern unlimited hydroplane and I can’t figure out a good way to get the sponsons done without a template. Is there any good way to do it or is there a template for it somewhere?

I'm not sure what you're asking? The basic construction is the same, except you'll use a bit more wood for the sponson chines so you can sand a nice rounded edge

Oh the skins for the sponsons? There are no such templates since every build will be different. Do what I do... Guess and guess again until it fits. Use cardboard initially and cut the pieces oversized, then just keep trimming until it fits or it doesn't. Take your time and don't hesitate to throw a piece away and start over if you cut too much. Be patient and persistent, and eventually you'll get it. NOW make a pattern set from your final pieces so that you can easily make new sections if/when you need to repair the boat in the future.

What is the white powder you put in the resin? can i use chopped up fiberglass and fiberglass resin to mount the motor onto the boat ?

Fiberglass resin really isn't a great adhesive, plus it won't stick well to the hull if it's an epoxy fiberglass or wood boat. You'll be better off using a good two part marine epoxy like West System 105/206 or G-Flex. The adhesive filler is West System 406 colloidal silica, intended for the purpose of filling adhesives, also a better choice than chopping fiberglass. Better? Heck no. How is wood a better choice? In what way exactly? Wood is soft and easily damaged. It warps quickly and cracks over time, soaks up water over time as well. G10 is very hard and very flat, almost impossible to break, never warps, never gets water soaked ... What's not to love?

Light yes, but strong? Not so much. Micro balloons are just as their name implies, little hollow spheres. Hollow means light, but if course there is no epoxy in that empty space and thus the resulting mixture is much weaker than epoxy soaked fillers.
