Jeremy Jahns summed it up perfectly in his review. It felt like a CW show. A bad one. Like the people who made it think they know what SW is and have only heard about it. When the creator of the show even comes out and says it's the 'gayest SW ever" and the fact that the only prominent white character is a prisoner tells you all you need to know and what Disney is trying to continue to push here. I think it's objectively bad..

I can't say for sure how I felt about Episode 1 when I first saw it. But it's one of the very few movies I actually went to see in a proper movie theatre. I was so stoked and thrilled for new Star Wars movies that I went and saw it on my own in the cinema one afternoon. I have all the prequels on DVD now and the big Darth Maul versus Qui Gon Jin and Obi Wan Kenobi showdown is the best lightsabre duel in the whole series as far as I'm concerned. Much better than the over egged Battle of the Fates in Revenge of The Sith. I suppose they wanted to try and go one better than the big three way finale of Episode 1, but two Jedi twirling their weapons about in the air like some kind of half cocked demented majorette isn't the way to do it.

Delude yourself if you want, but these were terrible - slow, cartoonish, and the acting was stilted and wooden. I'm not sure how kids sat through the meandering political narrative and there is no way Jar-Jar appealed to anyone above 6. Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

George didn't want 7, 8, 9. He started sequel treatments in 2011. Guess what, in May 2011 he started talks with Bob Iger. He knew Disney was gonna make the trilogy and he wanted them made the way he wanted. And he wanted to increase the value of Lucasfilm before the sale. Had he kept the company, there wouldn't have been a sequel trilogy. Spinoffs yes, tv shows, games etc. But not 7, 8, 9. The saga was complete with ROTS and he said it countless times.

I think the real reason why TPM received mixed reviews is because it did not live up to everyone's expectations at the time and felt so different in terms of tone as the original trilogy was darker and had better character development. I remember watching Episode 1 in the theatre and I was 9 years old. I loved it because it was the perfect age to be introduced to Star Wars. I never had anything against the prequels and after watching this video I didn't realize at the time how much hate it got at the time. Mostly with Jar Jar being the annoying character fans hated for years. But I guess Episode 1 did poorly was mainly because it lacked good storytelling which is essential in making a successful film and putting more emphasis on the visuals. That's just my opinion. I will always love Star Wars.❤❤❤❤❤

I think it's a cop-out defense when Lucas claims that Star Wars was made for kids. There's plenty of maturity in the original trilogy that made the films exciting for young adults (Han & Leia, Luke's force training on Dagobah, the deaths of Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru). And the story is structured very closely to Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress..." which is not exactly made for preschoolers.

The time between "A New Hope" and "The Phantom Menace" is shorter than the time between "The Phantom Menace" and today. Crazy

So, Lucas gave Disney the rights to (ruin 🙄) make Star Wars movies and then Disney gave EA the rights to make ruinous games. Bad decisions all around. 😂

I didn’t care about the characters and there were too many holes in the plot. Things that didn’t make sense. It seemed George was more concerned with the FX than the story. Oddly enough, I didn’t mind Jar Jar.

Star Wars fans are so much worse than the prequels. Seeing the videos of these people is hard to watch.

Phantom Menace is unwatchable (outside of Darth Maul), but the trailers for that movie were some of the best I've ever seen... I wish it was the other way around

As far as i remember people where bitching about the prequals and calling them mediocre already when they came out. It really isn't something new or recent.
