Hello, Jemma, i havent had one in many years, but i also have a diagnosis of ASD now, and co-occurring seizures, if you ever need to talk with someone about this. I was born with Hemiplegia, and have Hemiplegic migraines and now seizures as well

It annoys me that people judge the things this young man can do, or what he understands. Beau is Beau. There are videos of your son, where he has created something, or he is in free play. He is Beau, and his mind is very busy. That's the only thing I notice. It's not okay to label a person or assume what they do or don't know, based on a diagnosis. I bet that your son is a very good friend to have. He has a gentle personality, and he knows detailed information about many things. These are qualities we can see in a video. Maybe these are the only things we can know for sure about a person. Please let's have no more judging on this page

This is a respectful place to be. I like to see new videos from ASD Rocks. I have just been diagnosed with ASD 1, with Cluster C personality traits, including features of OCD and ADD. I was also born with Cerebral Palsy, and I have mild cognitive delay in spatial and sensory processing. I was able to achieve some good things because I can appear like I've overcome difficulties. Such things as being uncomfortably shy. I have a passion for understanding why people think and behave as they do, so I can help children in library, choosing books and reading them together. My life has been full and enjoyable, but a diagnosis of Neuro-divergence means there is support for things I don't always ask for help with. A good example of this is that it sometimes takes me a bit longer than others to figure something out, such as shoelaces or the right change at the cash register. It's nice to know that we understand why this is now. I admire the close and loving relationships you have in your family. Thank you for ASD Rocks. This channel is a great place for teaching people about Autism and family life, and I believe you are bringing something good into the world

1 Corinthians 15:51-55 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep/die, but we shall all be changed, perfected/glorified 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, AT THE LAST TRUMP (DONALD): for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

Jemma, this must have been difficult for you and your partner to see. But, now, it makes a great deal of sense. Beau ranges his world in a certain way, in order to interact and make sense of all the things he sees, hears etc. I would describe this as sensory overload. It also makes sense when we appreciate the high level subjects he likes at VCE level

And my older brother used to do a side-stepping kind of run. He'd use it to get from place to place, but he'd do it many times a day, the same track every time. He would say he remembered thoughts and ideas and images going through his mind quickly. It was like excitement, or like to the sensation of crunching fast on a dry crunchy biscuit. He said he felt compelled to do it. He goes cycling on open roads today, with that feeling in mind. He says that time stops

That's a very interesting discussion ❤ Jemma, without knowing you, this discussion shows you are raising two fine, caring and independent sons here. If I might add, you and your son's might notice that people treat Beau a certain way, because they know he has ASD diagnosis, or due to the way he is, or how he presents. But, actually, as an adult and female who is neuro divergent, I find that I am able to act or behave certain Mays. I think we all do this a little bit. It's called masking, and I think we do it because we are social and connected within society. I wonder if the boys, at the grown ages they are now, have thoughts on this. If I am working with children, I have a professional approach. I have studied some principles of early childhood development and human psychology, but actually operate on a fairly low or different level to peers of my own age. Its very interesting, the way we humans show ourselves to others, especially amongst people out own age. Very few people know the way I struggle, and those who do actually have very low expectations of me.

I have been saying that the studies linking lgbtq+ to autistic individuals are incorrect. Many studies done on that showed both diagnosed and self-diagnosed individuals of autism which means that many of those studies are likely dealing with lgbtq+ individuals who are struggling with cptsd, BPD, or any other number of other disorders that should be diagnosed by a professional. Only a few studies have gone on to study groups of diagnosed individuals and neurotypical individuals and have found that the rate of lgbtq+ individuals within both ND & NT groups are actually quite even through both groups; with autistic individuals being more likely to be accepting and supportive of their lgbtq+ counter-parts than neurotypical individuals. I think this does a disservice to autistic individuals and lgbtq+ individuals, as we are not getting real results.

I think anyone in the LGBT++ community has the right to self diagnose their sexuality... but NO ONE should be Self diagnosing a medical disorder, even if they read it on the internet!!
@kittiemarie1235
@kittiemarie1235 Ай бұрын
@@asdrocksautismrocks6478 well the rate that autistics self-diagnose is higher than usual. For many women (and some men; but mostly women,) who are high-masking they can almost function “normally,” for most of their lives but at some point in their late-mid 30’s they hit burnout and it isn’t until they begin to do research that they slowly come to the conclusion that they might be dealing with something more. It’s almost as if they have to recognize the symptoms and come to terms with it before looking for a diagnosis. It’s a fear because of the way autism is viewed within communities. Often the way people begin treating them is also something that can discourage one from getting an ASD diagnosis. I do agree that especially in the case of studies people need to be accurately diagnosed.

Hi, Jemma, yes! I believe that spatial awareness and judging speed of vehicles on the road is a skill which we develop over time. Being 11 years old at that time, a young person might still be developing those senses. As with people who are Neuro diverse. I am yet to have a Developmental Psych assessment for ASD. My Dr believes I have always presented with mild features of Autism, high functioning. Other areas which can be misdiagnosed are ADD, OCD and Mood disorders. There is a local practitioner who believes that Cluster C personality traits, or the 'Highly Sensitive Personality' is closer to the truth for adults who struggle. I believe that, for individuals like myself, a clear pathway might mean addressing difficulties, so as to achieve to my best. Life struggles are real, and it's frustrating to hear that 'there is nothing to diagnose' when one is having difficulty. An example is that I struggle to compute change at a cash register. Can't find the formula in my mind. Focussed on people, thoughts, feelings, senses, motion, etc. 😊 it's incredibly limiting

I name that drama. I i now have a appointment my mom picks my up and drive me, because with the bus i can not trust that i even make it to the appointment.

This will be important for you and your songo feel confidenr, especially as you both look back on the way you've eased him in to independent travel on the buses. This would have been helpful for me, at that age. Traveling, there are many factors to consider, especially that of time management. The time it actually takes for the bus to start and finish at your destination. Any possible elements which distract your son can be ironed out. I found that keeping track of time bus leaves to time of arrival was a struggle, especially if anything changed. My coordination went out the window on the bus, because I was so nervous. Finally, I probably wasn't safe for the first few years. So nervous, if speak with anyone, share my seat, socially anxious, so would do anything for fellow passengers, including give them my seat, or walking them home, no matter how far out of my way. I admire the training you're doing, because you'll be able to identify and address any concerns early

I think it might be good if someone that knows the path. Does some of these things for you. It makes a difference if someone from a certain company can do it. At least here in the netherlands if you fight for it yourself, or a parent you get earlier a no the when an company specialist in autism and disabilities does the same it is earlier a yes. I can not find the proper words for explaining what i ment. Butit might be helping if a third party would pick up this part of cours also in contact with you My strenght wishes.
