Switch from E blanket to a heating pad. Your best way to stay warm for less watts. YOU wear wool socks thermal underwear and you will sleep great I use this at home.

Affordable cooking is 750 watt inverter and a rice pot. Another good way to cook induction it's very efficient. Living in a van YT channel Denoy show his work. A pot of rice give 4 people a meal with a van of beans. The most efficient cooking is the E pressure cooker smaller ones can be powered by the 750w. Once pressure is sealed still cooks when power is off. Solar oven great if you have the sun but this video is at night.

The only question at this point is will they fix it without a complete block redesign and main cap design....and will they keep the power output the same. Any new gen will probably have both changed. Would be nice if someone gets one of these replacement shortblocks being sent out to see whats different. Also are the dealers altering computers to decrease the power? I would bet so!

Excellent evaluation & informative. There are so many comments to read I’m sorry to ask but what about a wider rim in the same diameter? I miss my Tacoma but my next vehicle is going to be an FJ!

I don't believe these spun main bearings are due to uncleared machining debris left over during the manufacturing process. I think there is a design problem. My theory is that it has to do with the cast iron bearing caps embedded in the aluminum ladder casing. My theory is that the differential expansion of aluminum vs iron is causing the bearing caps to "move" out of tolerance. It starts with just a little play, but that increases over time (just like a small leak always increases over time). Solution: maybe go back to resin coating? Maybe lose the cast iron caps - stick with 1 material with 1 thermal expansion rate?

Holy shit, that must have been a lot of work to shoot and edit. Thank you so much for putting in the work! While you focus on the empirical data, I'd be curious to hear how comfortable the skinnies are off road in comparison to the fatties. I ask because while I only wheel stuff that a good driver could bash a stock rig through with very minimal damage, I roll on 315/75-16s for the comfort when aired down. My bitch about them is that on my particular rig, I need 1" spacers to get them to clear hard parts and as such, the steering feedback sucks on road, the steering wheel gets jerked around a lot off road, and I tend to burn up wheel bearings faster than usual. Running 255's on the stock wheels would fix all of that but my only unknown is how different they'd ride compared to what I'm currently on. I guess a slightly worse ride would be an acceptable tradeoff to fix all the other stuff, but my wife's tits wouldn't be too pleased with it. lol...

Competition drive down price, then upcoming tariff in next few months come in to double cost of everything, now every American will be poorer! Standard of living going down. There are no businesses case for cheap goods, no american manufacturers have any businesses cases to build anything cheap because no one will make any profit, we only make expensive items otherwise nothing gets made. The same reason why we only see million dollars home, no private builder builds cheap houses for the poor.

I'm a pizza cutter bro all the way, steering angle and weight being the main reasons. That said, I suspect the common 'deflate' wisdom we all know might not be correct. The data does not necessarily prove that there is no difference in contact patch between wide and narrow tyres for a given use scenario/terrain. That is only true if we assume we are running the same presures for both tyres for a given scenario/terrain. The data COULD suggests that wide tyres can be deflated MUCH more before enough flex of the sidewalls occurs to risk sidewall damage. This would mean that you can run wide tyres at lower presures, granting a larger contact patch and less ground presure. This would be especially true if you run beadlocks. The question obviously being if you can utilize these effects above the debeading/beadlock teritory, as you stated, most people don't drive that low because it isn't worth the risk. It would be interesting to do a heat test of the tyres, to see if the narrow tyres indeed have more rolling resistance at the same presure as a wide tyre. If so, it could mean you could run wide tyres lower than narrow ones in all circumstances, meaning they will have a grip advantage (assuming grip is related to contact patch) in all circumstances. One small note, we see there is a difference in contact patch between the two tyre brands at the same presure. This has two potential causes that were not discussed (which might be good, keeps the video on topic). One: the two brands might have the same load rating, but different sidewall characteristics. Two: the difference could be caused by the difference in tread pattern. The way you've measured contact patch is completely acceptable when comparing tyres that have the same tread pattern (which you could argue they do not have btw). But by including the air between the blocks, we cannot be certain that different tread patterns actually have the same amount of rubber touching the ground. Awesome video btw

Why not just use an inverter like 1000w dc to ac instead. It would charge with up to 900 watts despite the conversation energy loss which would cut the charging time almost in half.

In 2018 I built out a van and became a part-time van dweller. Two years ago I went all electric with a 3KW "solar generator" that includes an 2KW AC inverter. I have 400 watts of solar on the roof, and can also charge via the car's system. I use an induction hotplate, a microwave, a small pressure cooker, and even a coffee pot. Additionally, I power my fridge, a roof van, lights, and a Wabasto heater. It all works and I never have to worry about finding butane cartridges.

I have two 92Ah LiFePO4 batteries in parallel in the 2nd row passenger-side footwell of a 4Runner, underneath the plywood sleeping platform on the floor of the cargo area (I took out the 2nd row seats). Charged by a 40A RedArc BCDC1240D charger from the OEM alternator, using 4 AWG wires through the firewall. I installed a temperature probe on the alternator housing, with a display on the dashboard. So whenever I see that the alternator is well below 175 degrees F, I do not have to worry about overheating the alternator if I turn on a switch that I installed in the dashboard to send current from the alternator to the RedArc charger, to charge the LiFePO4 battery bank. My 1200W inverter is enough for an 1800W induction cooktop since I only ever need at most medium heat from the induction cooktop, and a medium setting draws only 1100W. This setup worked well on a 6,000 mile overlanding trip. For heat in the winter, though, I am working on installing a diesel heater in the cargo area.

A compromise no-mod solution might be to run a 300-400W DC power supply off the inverter that can handle the modified sine wave, and feed its output into the Ecoflow. Looks like the cheapest option judging from amazon prices.

Cast iron expands at a different rate from aluminum. It looks like half of the crank bearing is formed by the aluminum block while the other half is formed by the cast iron ladder crank cap. When the engine comes up to temp, the aluminum side is going to try to expand at a different rate from the cast iron side causing uneven wear on the bearing sufraces.

I use a mix of fuel and electricity. I use a coleman gasoline camp stove and lantern, operates cheap and effectively. Shares an ample fuel supply with my FJ cruiser. My EcoFlow powers an electric blanket, water kettle, fridge, a K-Cup machine if i'm feeling fancy, etc... Charges at 400W from the alternator with a 48V transformer. That ecoflow charging accessory is 600 dollars! Get out of my face

Your questionnaire was already wrong. It depends for what you intend to use those tires. Wider tires have more grip for instance. Narrow tires are more fuel efficient and are better in snow. I am taking about regular car tires not off road applications though.
