Solid picks. I became a birder in Central Florida, and was unaware how rare the snail kites were until I met someone who had come all the way from Ohio to see them. The major drawback is it's not great for migratory songbirds and warblers. You only get a couple of months for Spring and Fall migration where the cool nothern wood warblers are coming through, and they can be tough to see. I'm hoping to hit California, Arizona, Maine and Minnesota in the next few years.

Hi Ed. Hey I'm considering going back to school to get a bachelor's in wildlife biology. I'd like to go into the consulting side... how necessary is a driver's license? I have seizures, but want to pursue this career path still. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the great video brother. I got a quick question. I've been seeing binoculars where the first number is like a 200 or 300. Is that real? What is that about?

I've seen baby bluebirds die because of photographers prolong playing of bluebird songs and calls near the nest. The male and female were so stressed that they did not come back for hours to feed the little ones. On a very warm day, the water the little ones need is in the food the parents brings them, in the case that i've mentioned, the babies died of dehydration. Some people only think about taking good pictures instead of the well being of the birds.

For all you bird and nature lovers, help us stop a major housing developer here in Orange County for yet again taking open wilderness to build estate homes "with trails" (greenwashing effect)! (Go to No Orange Heights and sign our petition:) The 1,180 homes will destroy 400 acres of open hills and grasslands now used as a corridor for wildlife from the Santiago Hills behind Irvine Regional Park down to Peters Canyon Regional Park. The grasslands here are home to a variety of endangered and threatened and extraordinary species, such as Bells Vireo, Loggerhead Shrike, White-tailed Kite, Western Meadowlark and Northern Harrier. We love our birds and wildlife as well as native plants and insects. Nature needs to take precedence not only because it and all of its species has a right to be here but because Nature and our local ecosystems are our Life Support System, and, possibly, our last hope -- if we're smart enough to protect it. Our ecosystems give us clean air, clean water and pollinated food to eat. Anybody love chocolate? Coffee? Blueberries? People do not make the connection between their survival and the wild animal food web. Our life depends on it, no kidding. Please go to No Orange Heights, read our stance and, if you agree, sign the petition. Every signature counts. We have strong support behind us and your signature will impress the bejeebers out of our local city council politicos. Thank you for your support. We greatly appreciate it! Up with nature! www.change.org/p/no-orange-heights-protect-foothills-from-1180-homes-in-wildlife-area?recruiter=1126435010&recruited_by_id=b2ec3390-bae6-11ea-a3bb-715fcb0ab12d&share_bandit_exp=initial-37282958-en-US

I'll add a couple tips: 1- every species is not in every place, but every place has some birds. Parks, Greenway, fields, roadside. Yes wild spaces are great, but even downtowns have lots of birds beyond pigeons and crows. Visit a neighborhood park or the local cemetery if getting out of town is not an option. 2- rare birds are always a treat, but the secret is to know the 100 or so common birds for your area, at least recognize them even if you don't remember their name. That way you can observe and appreciate their changes during the year and understand them the way you do a friend or neighbor, and this also makes it easier to recognize when a rare bird shows up because it is something you don't recognize immediately.

The pair of binoculars I got form Temu for $35 where better then most on the list. I would say they are as good if not better then all mid range binoculars on list. Unless you buy high end over $2000 binoculars you won't get any better.

How to buy “A” pair of binoculars? Make a video on which four pair of Binos you should have. One I use for looking at stars. one pair is for sitting an viewing 10x 50 for distant objects, another pair for finding birds in flight and wide open areas I.e. 8x42, and a small pair for quick grab on the go (for easy storage and pocket placement).

I am getting a pair from China for $35 we will see how they compare. The only thing I hate is they are 12x42. SUNCORE Outdoor Portable HD Binoculars For Travel, Camping, Hiking. If they have all the coating they say they have they should be pretty good. The Hd lenses all have FMC coatings and BAk4 has ESP Dielectric and phase coating. If there no good I just give them to my kids. I already have a pair of Carl Zeiss 10x50 which I got in East Berlin in 1980's for dirt cheap.

Hi! I appreciate your take on the best birding spots. We have a lot of birds in Colorado, but not like the places you mentioned. We're planning a big year soon and can't wait for New England and maybe S. CAL.
