Curious mate what shoes do you wear / prefer for indoor climbing? Looking to get an intermediate pair for myself. I suspect my Gym’s autobelay grades are soft so your videos are a good benchmark lol
@Mostly_Toasty3 күн бұрын
My favorite allrounder shoe is the La Sportiva Katana (Velcro Straps) and that's what's showcased for most of my videos. While it doesn't have a strong toe hook due to a lack of rubber around that area, it's stiff for the small chips and still has a good surface for smearing/slabs. I use La Sportiva Miura VS for chippy projects and overhangs and La Sportiva Theory for slab/smear heavy projects and boulders.
@ulysses2592Күн бұрын
@@Mostly_Toasty thanks for the response. I think im going to try the Scarpa Arpia V with velcro straps. The shoes you listed are a bit scary for me ;) but I know they are great models.

Yay this one! I like your cross step on the first move. It seems like a small thing, but that hand match is way more controlled than my tendency to bump the right hand for a big catch. Cheers!
@Mostly_Toasty4 күн бұрын
Yep! The small things add up! You can even toe hook the arete with your right foot for even more stability.

For me i just started climbing abouts a 2 months ago, and 5.10+ isn't too bad for me, i just need to move quicker. The lactic acid build up hits to hard in my arms. Any tips?
@Mostly_Toasty7 күн бұрын
First off, welcome to the climbing community and that's awesome that you're at 5.10+ already in 2 months! You should be proud of that progress! Typically, climbers can get around endurance struggles by: 1. Improving technique 2. Finding rest spots to shake out and recover some energy (easier with better technique) 3. Climbing faster (technique and familiarity with moves/route helps a lot) 4. Improving forearm endurance by doing laps on auto belays with downclimbing

Is it forbidden to lead climb in your gym ? Seems to be only top roping, and sometimes there aren't even quickdraws to clip it's making me curious
@Mostly_Toasty27 күн бұрын
Lead actually seems to be the focus of the main Atlanta gym. Or at least a large portion of the climbers were leading from our observation. Most of the routes are equipped with quick draws (on my other ATL videos, you can see plenty of quickdraws lining the routes I'm attempting); this one happens to be one of the few that was top rope only. Sadly, I'm still recovering from an elbow injury that makes lead quite difficult (~8 weeks of rehab left!) and we didn't bring our lead gear during this visit (Nashville is our home gym).

That's a metal/plastic piece to support the girder (girder is fully resting on top and covering it) - we thought it was the top at first too and double checked with the local climbers

I’m sorry, what’s with the commentary on technique? As if you aren’t on top-rope auto belay at the gym…
@Mostly_ToastyАй бұрын
Is something wrong with the commentary? I'm just making notes of what's been helpful for me in my beginner journey to climbing better. People from my TN community have found it helpful, so I've kept it up. Besides, I'm doing this for fun, and if it happens to help another beginner, then great! If the commentary upsets you in any way, you're certainly free to mute the videos!

Awesome, can i ask what rehab exercises have worked for your elbow? Got the same injury recently:(
@Mostly_ToastyАй бұрын
Yeah sure! What [I think] helped my climber's elbow (medial epicondylitis) the most was eccentric wrist and finger curls. I did 3x10 every morning and night on days that I wasn't climbing with my right arm (this included any one-armed climbing days with my left). You will likely feel pain in the affected arm as you lower the wrist for the eccentric movement - this is normal; just remember not to actively apply flexor force. I supplemented these exercises with climber's elbow-specific rehab with a Theraband Flexbar (1x3-5 stretch holds occasionally) as well as heat application with an elbow heating pad (1x15 minutes every few days). In general, listen to your body to prevent it from getting worse; don't be like me and learn the hard way. Good luck on your recovery!

Great job dude! Try to keep a more controlled slow movement with your foot (If its making a noise when you put it down then it needs to be slowwed dow). Try to also maintain a flowing movement to use the least ammount of energy possible. other then that great!
