I have noticed that 30g usually will last around one month unless my wife places an order and i find myself at the tea store again towards the end of the month. The tencha is beautiful. I have a tea house in my neighborhood here in Tokyo that has one in its shop and I can tell the difference in freshness, taste and just how it feels in the mouth. I have actually been toying with the idea of purchasing one myself. Do you know if it is hard to find matcha leaves to use with a tencha… my first choice of leaves I believe would be from Uji area. With regards to chasen, I have a simple hinoki box that I keep chasen, chawan and other small utensils including matcha inside while I’m not using stored inside a cabinet and it works fine and keeps the utensils in good shape over the years. Yes, one purchase of matcha until finished is a good philosophy unless you feel the need to experiment with different tastes. Domo arigato.

Interesting, I have been curious if the temperature affects the amount of foam made when making matcha but it doesn’t seem to make much difference. Do you notice a difference with your chasen if you have more or less whisks… I think it’s time for me to purchase a new chasen and I have noticed that you have the option of purchasing chasen with more whisks at a slightly higher price. I have been told that more whisks on your chasen make more foam… any thoughts.?

Depending on the number of tea leaf tips, there are different types of whisks, such as No. 70(kazuho), No. 80, No. 100, and No. 120. It is true that the higher the number, the more foam is said to be produced. However, once you get used to it, it won't make much difference. I usually use kazoho or 80.

@@SAMURAICHAJIN thanks for all your knowledge. The chasen I have has around 50 nibs and in the past it has worked fine over the years. What I did experiment with was the amount of water I am using. I purchased a new chawan for my wife and I was using just a little too much water in her chawan compared to mine which I pretty much know exactly how much water to use because I have had it for many years. Once I lowered the water level just slightly, it made a big difference, I also made sure to incorporate a nice amount of matcha, not too much, not too little. It takes a little more effort with my chasen compared to yours but it eventually gets the job done and it becomes a beautiful foam, color and taste. Message Arigato!
