I finally read James and absolutely loved it too. Seeing everything from Jim’s eyes and soul was heartbreaking at times. Some of this book just tore my heart out and some made me so angry! A quote that sticks with me from the book is this one. “To fight in a war,' he said. 'Can you imagine?' 'Would that mean facing death every day and doing what other people tell you to do?' I asked. 'I reckon.' 'Yes, Huck. I can imagine.” 💔💔💔

Well, not socks but sweaters. I am learning how to knit my first one with many more on my radar. Two are from the Harry Potter knitting book you showcased a while back. Someday, I might knit socks, but it is not this day!☺️

I gave copies of Small Things Like These to 5 people this past Christmas with instructions to open early. It's a book to haul out every Christmas but it's a sweet, compelling read at any time of year. The Magdelene laundries in Ireland have been portrayed in several films. BBC did one (based on memoirs) in 2002 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htCjlsdezJ3eZoU.htmlsi=zVjK3TBF3XZHzqwz - some images stick with me years later. There's also Judy Dench in Philomena from a few years back - a fictionalized account of a now-old woman revisiting her past. I grew up Catholic and thought I'd come to terms with the religion I left. Between these films and the excavation of kids' bodies from Catholic-run "residential schools" to which indigenous children were forced to so .... there's a lot of sick crap going on in the name of religion and makes me angry. Also to get active, to be an activist.

I wish my 20 year old self had been as confident as my 40 year old self. And now I’m 60, and I am even MORE confident and assured.

I am a bread baker and clicked on this while I was putting a cherry pie in the oven and feeding my sourdough to bake bread tomorrow. I have never seen a tool like you stirred your starter with, it looks awesome! Thanks for keeping me company while we both puttered in our kitchens!

Hi Nicole, I’ve enjoyed your podcast today. This is the first time that I have met you and you did this one a year ago same time of year I am working on socks right now with Kay‘s summer camp, but I’m still on my first sock and scared, never made a soccer before I’m a new Knitter. I’ve made one garment a tank top last summer to take to Hawaii and I have like three on the hooks and I just started the sock. I’m so glad to meet you. I’ve enjoyed it very much.

I was feeling some of your thoughts and concerns about Scattered Minds. It reminded me of the book Hidden Valley Road (amazing book btw!!), when they didn’t know a lot about schizophrenia and thought it was caused by the mother. I feel that ADHD is very young and misunderstood, as is the human brain, and I’m excited for humanity to grow in this area. :)
