H&R hunting adventures ya show’s the genetic are still there if only we let them develop. The classic strong royal tine with throw backs is a trait we would all like to see back in the Fiordland Wapiti herd it the one that differentiates between reds and waps.

taierileckie What about the fact that the earlier shown stag / bull was missing a bey tine? It probably will never grow it?
@taierileckie
@taierileckie 4 жыл бұрын
I agree the bez tine will probably never grow he still needs age to mature and get more mass on his head. And we are there to get a trophy, leaving the culling to FWF. I still except this bull to grow into a substantial trophy if left to reach his full potential which just requires age, he won’t be a classic trophy but fully mature in a couple of year’s could make someone day.
@warwickgibbs6303
@warwickgibbs6303 4 жыл бұрын
taierileckie Agreed. Every year we read the stories, showing how all the stags / bulls need another ‘year or two’, to grow to their potential (& rightly so). However, this recurring theme has been the same for many years. Therefore where are all these stags / bulls that should now be massive, (having reached their maturity). They just don’t seem to be eventuating from the annual stories.
@taierileckie
@taierileckie 4 жыл бұрын
Warwick Gibbs Great question Warwick where are all these massive bulls? If I knew the answer to that my trophy room would be big, that’s why I keep going back to try and fine one! I know a lot of bulls come out of the wapiti blocks that are not published as there has been to much criticism in the past and judgements made on what constitutes a trophy Fiordland Wapiti Bull. The FWF have put together some very good guidelines and recommendations has to what to look for which a lot of hunters are sticking to hence some good looking Bulls are being left for another year or 2 but a lot are being shot and hidden away through fear of criticism. I say when you make that decision to pull the trigger be proud of your achievement and don’t be judged by other. Your trophy in your eyes should be celebrated and if you can’t do that them don’t pull the trigger. Just remember for you to have a trophy to hunt many other hunter have made that decision before you to let it get a couple of year’s older.

They are not hybrids ?? They are same species and produce fertile offspring. Wapiti bulls have been used to infuse size and quality into red deer herds . The NZ “Wapiti” appear to be red deer that have been improved by Wapiti blood. .... If they look like reds and sound like reds , they are reds ! You Kiwis have every right to be proud of them . You have fantastic hunting and a beautiful country . Greeting from Wales !
