I’m a little late to the party. My son introduced me to the Hamilton soundtrack in 2019. He made me listen to the entire performance as we drove across the country for his music audition, the winter of his freshman year of college. I was not in the mood for rap music and struggled to follow along. He paused and explained parts quite often. I couldn’t appreciate it at that time. When it was released on Disney+, we watched as a family. That’s when I fell in love with the play. Since then, I cannot get enough. Lin Manuel Miranda mentioned the dense lyrics. He is so right. so much packed in each line. Every time I watch or listen, I hear something new that I must re-search. Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote a masterpiece. He even inspired me to read Ron Chernow’s biography, that inspired LMM. The biography is so well written. I’m ready to read Washington’s biography from Ron next. I appreciate how this masterpiece of a musical has reignited my curiosities of our history.

I wish Dr. Shogan well in her position. It seems that a fair number of people think that records management, including preservation and retrieval, is a simple task. It is not. As Dr. Shogan carries out her role, I'd like another interview with her thoughts on policy matters, such as long-term viability of paper records and format options, destruction of records, improved accessibility, and so on. Thanks to the Foundation for this initial interview.

NARA may want to consider that taxpayers have begun paying attention to the level of transparency, policy changes, collaborations with administrations, and what is "off limits" to the public. Pre-curated history is not history. The American people have begun writing it again. Accountability will come, Ms. Shogan.

You'd swear that had he not become an historian, Jon Meacham would have been a preacher. And a good one. So much of his philosophy is rooted in religion. Humans as fallen creatures. The notion of sin. The focus on redemption. But that's what mainstream historians have become: moral philosophers. They're filling a void in an age when higher education institutions have become trade schools, and prominent leaders of the highest profile companies demonstrate a near total incapacity for moral reasoning. Great discussion here!

Jon Meacham is the great apologist for elitism...he is a pointer to the American nests of elitists in this country. Think about it. Google them...explore their boards of directors....these "foundations". Jon Meacham's job is to "anesthetize" the conscience of the affluent groups in society so that they can ignore the suffering underclass which they exploit. Jon Meacham is here to assure you the Titanic is unsinkable as you purchase your ticket for the future. Before "January 6", Jon Meacham was telling you all is well, it can never happen here.

The play, mainly the soundtrack, is great. Hamilton himself is not all that great and without Washington ‘on his side’ he wasn’t much. Almost no one liked him and I don’t see him as a great thinker. Miranda apparently considered other figures (such as Lincoln) and settled on Hamilton when realizing they were being done by others, etc. And the second half of the play is markedly not as interesting or good as the first half. But the soundtrack overall is great on its own.

to all who served during the Vietnam conflict. Thank you for your service, sacrifice and welcome home. I dedicate these two songs by SSgt Barry Sadler from his 1966 record album Ballads of the Green Berets to you! "Salute To The Nurses" SSgt Barry Sadler After the battle after the fight many owe their lives to the ladies and men in white And all of the men in this war torn land salute the nurses of Vietnam They know the awful toll of war each day they know more than any the price we pay A soldier his hands too burned to write a nurse takes down his words through the lonely night They have gone to the front where men fought in the night from Pleiku to Qui Nhon where war these men fight Many a wounded soldier pain is eased for a while by opening his eyes to see a nurses smile To each of the wounded on the operating shelf these nurses give a part of themselves I know every soldier to the last man will sometimes say a prayer for the nurses of Vietnam After the battle after the fight many owe their lives to the ladies and men in white And all of the men in this war torn land salute the nurses of Vietnam. "I'm a Lucky One" SSgt Barry Sadler I'm going home, my tour is done I'm going home, I'm a lucky one But I left friends behind me Who won't come home no more Yes many friends remain forever On that bloody shore But at night when I sleep, I know my dreams will be About my friends I left across the sea I'll here verbal young men harn, laugh again out loud We'll all be together in a happy crowd But then I hear the sound of bullets whining overhead Feel the crash of morters and all my friends are dead My friends they fought and gave their all My friends they died for freedoms call As my dream was ending, they'll come and say goodbye Though I'm sound asleep a tear I'll cry And they say something which fills my heart with pain Tell them about us Sadler, don't let us die in vain I'm going home, my tour is done I'm going home, I'm a lucky one.
