Question: #5: An adverb modifies a verb. So answers B and C also correct. "He ran quicker/quickest."
@thelighthouse13Күн бұрын
@mikekurtz5868 Thank you for your comment! You bring up an interesting point about the comparative and superlative forms. However, in the context of grammar and the specific question, "What is the adverb form of 'quick'?", the correct answer is "quickly." "Quickly" is the standard adverb form that directly modifies verbs to describe how an action is performed. For example, "She ran quickly." While "quicker" and "quickest" can indeed function as adverbs in some contexts (e.g., "He ran quicker" or "He ran quickest"), they are primarily the comparative and superlative forms of the adjective "quick." These forms compare the speed of actions but are not the basic adverb form. So, for the purpose of the question, "quickly" is the most accurate and straightforward adverb form of "quick." Thank you for engaging and for your insightful comment!

A group of dolphins is called a pod NOT a team!
@thelighthouse13Күн бұрын
@Trashbash_Creations Thank you for your comment! You are correct that the most common term for a group of dolphins is "pod." However, in English, there are often multiple collective nouns for animal groups, and "team" and "school" are also acceptable terms for dolphins, though less commonly used. I appreciate your keen observation and hope you enjoyed the challenge!

Question 3: One could be quick and still be awkward and clumsy. Would "agile" perhaps be a better choice?
@thelighthouse133 күн бұрын
@mikekurtz5868 Thank you for your insightful comment! You bring up a good point about the nuances of the word "nimble." While "quick" captures the speed aspect of "nimble," "agile" indeed emphasizes both speed and grace, which might be more accurate. I'll keep this in mind for future quizzes. Thanks again for your feedback!

If this is supposed to be a English vocabulary test, why would I know where the word banana comes from?
@thelighthouse134 күн бұрын
@FlareDrafox Thank you for your feedback! While the origin of words like "banana" might not seem directly related to vocabulary, understanding etymology can deepen our knowledge of the language and its history. It adds an interesting layer to learning and can help with remembering words and their meanings. Your perspective is valuable, and I’ll consider this for future content to ensure the challenges are more focused on direct vocabulary usage.

@thelighthouse135 күн бұрын
@davidfletcher3194 Thanks for taking on the challenge! The etymology of 'penguin' is indeed a tricky one. The word is thought to come from the Welsh term 'pen gwyn,' which means 'white head,' though this is debated. It’s fascinating how words evolve and take on new meanings over time. The liver filters (cleans) the blood, removing toxins and waste. Once the liver has broken down harmful substances it excretes them either via bile or blood. These blood by-products eventually leave the body (filtered out) via the kidneys as urine - question 12 therefore has 2 possible answers. Great quiz, thank you.
