I was born in 1995 and still remember watching the weather channel looking a lot like this around 1998-2002ish.

If The Weather Channel gets out of New Orleans because it's too dangerous, then you should too.

This was, in reality, the peak and valley of western civilization put into one, the peak because the weather channel is so awesome, the valley because, well, Katrina was a horrible storm.

I heard stories of it snowing in Pittsburgh in May 1996, not a lot, and melted before land, but nontheless its quite rare to snow in Western PA in May. Nonething officially and every day went well above the 50's.

7:05: Pete Delkus before he came to Dallas become the successor of the legendary Troy Dungan at WFAA, he's been doing Dallas weather for almost 20 years now and now been the face of WFAA's weather team for a entire generation who didn't grow up in Troy's time at the station like me (as i been living in North Texas since i was a kid in the late 80s, so pretty much i grew up watching Troy & David Finfrock at KXAS and Bob Goosemen at KTVT & KDAF and Mike Burger at KDFW & later KTVT as well as Tim Heller & later Dan Henry on KDFW as well).

I was just shy of 13 years old when this happened. We lived in NY at the time and as a kid i felt anxiety for LA and New Orleans. Had NO idea that it would be as disastrous as it was (as im sure others couldn't fully comprehend what was about to take place and all the damage that came - much of that due to the inferior levee system.) I also remmeber CLEAR AS DAY, a little over a year after this, the Saints had their first game back in the Super Dome against the Falcs. I remember watching part of it before bedtime and then i remember sneaking up late and somehow listening to the game either on the radio or something else. But i remember tearing up a little when the Saints won that first game - sort of a welcome back to all the residents that had to deal with all the damage and disaster left in the wake of Katrina and especially those that took shelter in the Super Dome in the days that followed the landfall.

Such an innocent time that we took for granted in the U.S. Only about 7 months before a raving, orange egomaniac talked about his building in NYC now being the tallest in the area.

Wow. What a beautiful way for you to honor the lives of those lost on 9/11 so much better than you feel Trump did (not really, that was a really insensitive, shitty thing for you to say considering the tragedy that took place). Almost 23 years later, and all you can think about that terrible event was how Trump reacted, apparently. Maybe he’d be right in being an egomaniac. Seems like you delicate babies can’t stop obsessing about him, after all!! 😂

What is the point of this? /gen Like is it an archive? For nostalgia? To listen to while you fall asleep? A really niche special interest? A joke? I'm genuinely confused why there's hours and hours of old weather channel footage on your channel. No judgement, just confusion. What sacred mission has led you to pursue this endeavor?

Think of it as an archive of a live TV channel and weather events. Most of the uploads are from my Weather Channel recordings from years ago. I upload them for the reasons others have commented and to provide snapshots in time for the weather that was being experienced around the U.S. Back then I had no idea I would be sharing them here, but here we are.

Thank you for posting this absolute gem. I have fond memories of the weather channel from this year. This footage is from a couple of weeks before I graduated from high school. Since I'm from Peoria, IL, I still remember hearing about the Roanoke, Illinois tornado in the news that July. Hard to believe that it's almost 20 years since that tornado. Luckly, everyone that was inside the Parsons Company Manufacturing Plant (a parts supplier for Caterpillar, Inc.) had survived that tornado. The Parsons Plant was later rebuilt in April 2005 after that tornado. The 2004 Roanoke, IL tornado was later featured on an episode of "Storm Stories" as well as "Full Force Nature" from The Weather Channel. Nine years later, a similar EF4 tornado that had already devastated Washington, IL came very close to the rebuilt Parsons Plant in Roanoke on November 17, 2013. Luckly, the rebuilt plant survived the 2013 tornado.
