Hey good afternoon, how r u? what's the difference in sharing a capacitor between two pots compare to two separate capacitors?

? I used new pickups, new CTS pots and new orange drop capacitors, and wired it 50s style. I only get sound when the volume is up all the way and then only very low sound. Same on both. I have checked the grounding, pickups, capacitors with a multi meter. Would you have any thoughts on this? Thank you.

Clever, but this is going down the path of diminishing returns. Passive tone control can only go so far. To be serious, one need a built-in 3-channel lo-med-hi active bandpass filter.

The switch on an aging guitar can get twitchy. That's embarrassing onstage. The new switch purchased online looks a bit different, so thanks for the tutorial.

Wow You saved me !!!! My guitar sounds amazing now!!! I looked at diagrams and was afraid to proceed because they had wires and grounds on different ones of the 3 outs of the 2 Tone pots … i was confused

I have an HSS (auto split mod position #2) with the tone knob closest to the volume assigned to both the neck and middle pickups. The bridge pickup gets its own tone knob-the one closest to output jack. I don’t want to misquote you. I was understanding you saying you can’t have two pickups and one tone knob with an HSS autosplit mod/position #2, but actually you CAN. I have an HSS with that mod and specifics. Or were you saying that with your particular preference or for the purposes of your diagram, you can’t have two pickups and one tone knob with your your particular diagram?

I am assuming that in this diagram, you are using a rotory type of 5 way switch. How do I use this same procedure using a inline type of 5 way switch such as in a Ibanez rg series, ( hsh with emg hz pickups & a inline 5 way switch)?

At 4mins 53 seconds Don has been kind enough to show us the quickest, neatest and for some reason less harsh sounding version of the Original " 50s" wiring that most electrics used back then. If you can find a nice big yellow paper in oil capacitor ( Jensen .1uf) the Guitars tone becomes more percussive with a natural compression. If you are happy with the sound the way it is then leave it alone.

Thanks very much for your DIY video!❤ Very well thought out step-by-step instructions and drawings. I wired my Seymour Duncan Everything Axe pickups. The mod works extremely well. What a step up! For the first time, my Strat is sounding like one. I also like your choice of capacitors for this mod. The change of tones are just right for me.

You'd think that someone like Fender, Seymour Duncan or any of the other big name brands would have easy access to a wiring schematic like this. Nope. Searched for hours - then jumped to KZfaq and found this in 5 seconds. You have a new subscriber now for sure - this is exactly what I (we all) need!

I prefer 50's style. Love having more treble when the volume is turned down. 50's is just better. My Les paul was indeed wired modern when I bought it. From what I understood, they stopped wiring them Vintage 50's because of the effect it has on the Volume/Tone relationship which in the 50's version is more interactive. Luckily I don't even really use the tone at all and it's always on full/bright.

I thought I had it figured and it ws working but then my pickups went MICROPHONIC and middle position cuts out. How do I change this diagram to reflect (x)1 on/on toggle?* #NOTE I have a regular 5 way switch and I have the (5H) replacement for a 1991 Ibanez RG550.

What about a two pickup guitar with two volume and two tone controls?
@masongregory278
@masongregory278 14 күн бұрын
You would wire one tone pot to one volume pot, wire the lead from the bridge pickup to that volume pot and then the output (middle lug) wires to A4. Repeat the other volume and tone pot and wire that output to B1.

Hi there 👋thank you so much for your work, it's so easy to follow along! Everything seems to work fine, but the volume in position 2 is much lower than other positions. Is it expected? Can it be a soldering issue or is it rather pickup related? Second "problem", the hum with single coils really disappear only when touching the strings or any metallic part (bridge, jack socket, knobs). Do I have a ground issue, or is it just normal with single coils, I don't have much experience with this kind of pickups. Thank you to any good soul who'll see this and help! 😀

Can outputs be used as inputs? Ie reverse signal flow direction? "A" would be clean, "B" might have an EQ, compressor, pitch shift, and maybe a reverb Guitar>ABY (Box1) input >ABY-A signal output = Clean signal >ABY-B signal output = FX signal Reversed ABY (Box2) A input >ABY-A intput = Clean signal >ABY-B input = FX processed signal In ABY Box 2 the clean and processed signals are mixed together into a mixed signal that is sent downstream to the amplifier input. The goal is to blend a combined (clean and dirty) sound signal to the amplifier input. The signal is furrher processed via amplifier's preamp tone stack and whatever onboard effects there may be, and sent to the amp's output stage.

For me it’s the quick volume roll off in one of my Les Paul’s that has 50’s wiring. I tried a treble bleed and it helps me get a better range on my volume pot.

Hi Don, I have a HH + 3-way toggle + 1 - Vol pot. I have a Bill Lawrence L500XL ( bridge - 4 wire) & a Duncan ‘59( Neck classic 2 wire), I wanted to split the neck HB with a push-pull volume pot - flick the 3-way toggle up, pull out the push-pull volume pot and have only one of the coils of the neck pickup working, is this possible ? I would want a treble bleed on the push-pull too. If you could help me out, that’d be greatly appreciated. Ty

Thank you for the video. I really can't bring myself to solder to the back case of a pot in an effort to form a ground circuit. I would rather use a central single point ground with a terminal lug soldering strip and use bus wire and Teflon sleeving to form my grounds. My Les Paul (1976) has a two terminal lug soldering strip riveted to the pot plate as came from the factory, with the riveted position as the single point ground.

Black Sabbath's first two albums ? done on a Gibson SG with single coil P90s ok I'll tell ya ! 'neck & bridge's OUT OF PHASE you're welcome NIGEL here, rock on
