I would love to spend winters in PR. My husband hates bugs though. They wouldn't bother me. I wonder if certain areas are safer crime wise.

This is in response to you husbands list of leaving Puerto Rico- Quite accurate. But Like to add a bit. I spent time in Puerto Rico Pre and post Maria for work. In fact I just moved here several months ago on a 3 year assignment. I think biggest misconception of Puerto Rico that US of A Americans have, it is part of US of A and should have similarities. WRONG. I have and still treat Puerto Rico as a country with it's own unique culture. It is also third world. You list some of the reasons. Yes the heat and humidity is pretty bad. Note I am a Pacific Islander. Does not get this bad. Yes the driving culture is reckless. However what I haven't seen much are road rage or accidents. If they took this driving behavior in the states they will certainly get a reaction. Puerto Rico is so fertile but most produce are imported. Go figure. Noise like the driving habits can't figure it out. I live in the Isla Verde location. Not just the loud music but offroad vehicles 24hrs.. I have not experience much litter. The beaches and street in my area are clean. I expected to see homeless. Rarely seen. Last, recently irresponsible landlord. But the catch they are from the states

This is so far from how I’d describe it. It is incredibly intense and painful yes. For me it’s more like severe cramping - but across most of the body and quite crushing. But - I do feel like there’s an other-worldly quality to the pain. It’s hard to describe and not really comparable to any other experience. There’s not really any other experience of pain that has so much purpose and hope and meaning to it. If you were experiencing that level of pain because you were injured or dying it would be horrendous. But when you know you are on a mission to bring your baby into the world it just feels…different. And the best part is, when you push that baby out the pain goes from 100-0 in an instant. It just ends like magic. And they hand you the little human that you made! The rush, endorphins, the emotion, the relief , the joy is so sudden and so overwhelming. You literally sit there feeling like some kind of superhuman being. Like ‘did that just happen? Did I actually survive that?!’. It’s the best feeling in the world.

thank you for this post... I am about to give birth in next two weeks. I do have a son, I was aiming for a natural birth, but the labor was botched by the doctor and I had to have epidural in the end.. now I am hoping for a natural birth and I am getting a bit freaked out, especially after this video. I think this is the first time ever a comment section has helped me out instead of infurriating me :D:D:D..

Taxes in Puerto Rico is .004% (4cents per dollar) very cheap , and your first home is tax exempt or exonerated. In Florida, sale's taxes are too high, as well as, property taxes. Inclusive, property insurance for a single family home is $3,000 each year in Florida, and only $179.00 in Puerto Rico, for the whole year. It's definitely less cheaper in Puerto Rico. Florida's crime rate is way much more. I live here in Florida for over 34 years, and have seen many crime increases. Retiring in Florida is too high for the elderly, which would need a part-time job, to survive over the time, due to HOA, home insurance and property taxes increases each year in Florida State, which is too alarming, where elderly fokes are see working in Florida State, to make ends meet. Definately, Florida is not a State to retire for the elderly any more .

Wow, that loud sad gasp when your partner said homeless people. They are not cockroaches they are people try to remember that in this World some people things turned out ok and they can fly around the Unted States being judgmental of every single place they go to and gasp when people who dont have any income are near them...and some people either through bad choices in life or bad luck unfortunately have to live on the street. sorry they had to ruin your day.

It sure does hurt! I have had four babies now. My first labour was unbelievably distressing because nobody ever told me how much it would hurt. I was 21 years old, believed I was dying because I thought that the pain was too intense to be natural.

Did you moved back to the states or to Chile? I was just curious. I mostly agree with all of your pros and cons. As for criminality, there’s crime everywhere in the states and Puerto Rico is no different. However, it depends where you go. There are certain neighborhoods you don’t want to explore, just like in the mainland. As for the weather, It’s really hot during the summer but during the winter it gets very comfortable with the low 70’s and even 60’s, even cooler on the mountains.

Mixed accurate review mainly but many outdated facts. Crime little violent crime. Crime tends to be petty and no one feels unsafe going out at night. People way friendlier and courteous than Florida.. Food prices tend to be higher and electric is very very expensive. Internet speeds are up to par with any state. Electric stability improved but if you want a place to live you need a back generator. False do not need a property, nor any 10000 dollars donation and yes to get set up with a broker for the ACT program. Custom service have improved. Note she lived here and got the hell out. She moved to the desert. No longer has a sense of changes in Puerto Rico or improvements since she left. I lived in NewYork California, Texas and Florida you can keep them.
