Vivian might have been a little nervous coming over to LA just after Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads had made a name for themselves .so he was right there around Jake E Lee and George Lynch .Warren DMartini which all were great technical players forsure but Vivian was a MONSTER on those Dio records especially Holy Diver .that album is stacked from cover to cover some real solid guitar on there .not a bad track on the LP .IMO it's a Heavy Metal Guitar Oriented Masterpiece that was right up there with Eddie and Randy .maybe not quite as technical but had that really raw heavy tone and blistering fast solos and could really bend the strings with a lot of emotion and feel on the Les Paul just like Randy .you would be hard pressed to find a better player than Vivian Campbell in 1982 and 83 I'll put his solos on Holy Diver up against anybody at that time with maybe the exception of Ed and Randy .liked his tone better that Jake Lee or George Lynch. think Jeff Watson had that simular tone and sound to Vivian

Here in 2024 I just saw it at the Kings Theatre in Glasgow. I’m stunned and speechless. Outstanding music, cast and choreography. I was too little to see it in the early 70’s, but now at 55 years old I am totally blown away by it.

Andy Mackay vastly overlooked these days and under estimated, you can hear the Roxy vibes all through this with a hint of the Joe Meek sound there as well..... simply a hidden gem........

19 years ago. It doesn't seem that much but if you compare Gillan then and now.. My god, how old they are :( Soon they'll never play again. It's so sad. I hope to get the chance to see them live one last time.

Gillan - circa 1970 to 1973 - one of the most brilliant voices in the rock music world - fast forward to later decades - well Gillan’s voice is a shadow of its former self imo …. 🥹

A very religious teacher made us listen to this album back in 1974. Never knew til 10 years later that what became my favourite singer of my favourite band sang the part of Jesus. I wonder if it was subliminal.

Everyone performed wonderfully...except Gillan. Sadly, he should've retired a very long time ago. He's pinched and feeble. So sad to behold.
