Great stuff! In the stats at the end, what does "GS" stand for (e.g., "forehand GS")?
@CoachBillPickleball13 күн бұрын
Very good question. I have always been against the use of acronyms and initialisms for the reason that the audience needs to know what they stand for but yet here I am using one. In this case GS was short for GroundStroke which is more of a tennis term anyway. I am changing it to the full word "drive" going forward which fits nicely both in size and description. Thanks for watching and helping to improve the channel. I am not using AI to analyze and do it the old fashioned why by watching and making judgement calls on each one. I think the stats can help to quickly see what went well and what needs work.

The volley (from an opponent's drive) you missed at 9:00 I would probably call a forced error, it was hit very low and hard just over the net and not an easy one to handle.
@CoachBillPickleball18 күн бұрын
Thanks. Forced versus unforced is subjective and I really debated that one. I ended up going with unforced because I uncharacteristically mishit it so badly (almost whiffed) and have so much time when the opponent is at the baseline line which is probably not a a great argument. If would not have been the worst game I have ever played if the other 7 were that debatable.

Way to put it out there brother. I don't know of many coaches willing to use their own mistakes as teachable moments and I love it. Your partner needs to lighten up a bit :) Where are your bad line calls!?!?!?!?

Bill, you are lifting the ball in your serve…..
@CoachBillPickleballАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I am continuously looking to improve my game. I am not sure what you mean by "lifting the ball in your serve". Can you elaborate?
@davecappy5268Ай бұрын
Bill, I think that the inference here is that you have a slight lift of the ball as you are tossing for the serve. Very subtle. Hard to tell at normal speed. Try slow motioning this? Anyways, kind of a nit if that's the reference

I've had the same problem with getting used to having to crowd the middle due to a partner getting targeted.
@CoachBillPickleballАй бұрын
Glad someone else feels my pain. I hope this is reminder to you to not do it for an entire tournament and figure out when watching the video later
@ajcheris4603Ай бұрын
@@CoachBillPickleball Looks like your partner had maybe 3 touches more than you over the course of the entire game. Pretty sure that's not targeting. I think your point though, was that you played lower level games previously where you picked up the bad habit. You really put your partner in a bad spot when you crowd the middle and force them off angle.
@CoachBillPickleballАй бұрын
Yes, my point was that I did not realize that I was out of position until watching the video. That is something that I need to correct. My partner was not getting targeted, I was just used to not getting the ball in lower level games and trying to insert myself
@lesterma1608Ай бұрын
Some one pops up the ball a lot
@CoachBillPickleballАй бұрын
If you are referring to me then I would agree with you. The crazy part is that I missed as many transition drops in this one game as I had about the whole winter playing rec. It is usually a good shot for me but I did not have it dialed in on this game and was long on almost all of them
@canucanoe2861Ай бұрын
@@CoachBillPickleball I beat my 19 yr old grandson on a regular basis, but when he has his game dialed in, he is hard to beat. That is when I put all of my serves and shots to his backhand side where I know he needs the most work. I know my dominance won't last more than a few more months, but at my age,(63), it sure feels good to beat a young buck.
@CoachBillPickleballАй бұрын
@canucanoe2861 Good move going to the backhand because 95% of players have a better forehand. If you control the ball better than the young buck than you keep winning. Keep getting out there and playing.

01:21 that ball was clearly in. Actually hit inside the line. And you are staring 1 foot away both of you at it. Can you stop the rampant cheating in this sport? If you tried this in tennis we would cook you for it. I don't have to cheat to win, but the fact both of you were on top of the ball 1 foot away and you both cheated is so sad.
@gavshep71Ай бұрын
Ball was in easy. 7:52 the guy calls another one out that was in.
@CoachBillPickleballАй бұрын
I agree that the video looks like the ball was in. I did the opposite of dodging that fact by replaying, zooming in, and putting it in slow motion like they do for a video replay in the PPA. I have watched pretty much every PPA tournament for the last year and have seen a lot of video challenges. I think this one was close enough that should have been video challenged by them if that was a thing in this tournament. I can also tell you that the PPA has multiple angles which we did not. I have a seen a lot of challenges that look in from this angle and the camera from the other side of the court confirms that they are indeed out. I can only say that we are never trying to hook anyone and can only call them as we see them.
@shipwreck8847Ай бұрын
@@gavshep71 Yeah, you guys gotta stop cheating. It means nothing to win games if they are all won on cheat calls.
@shipwreck8847Ай бұрын
@@CoachBillPickleball There's 2 of you and both of you are literally looking down on the ball at your feet 1 foot away from the ball, so there's no excuse that it was far and you didn't see it. If that was me, I would throw up the "in" call. No matter how much i hate the result, I never hook my opponents. I come from tennis background and there's a code of conduct that pickleball players seem to have zero respect for.
@shipwreck8847Ай бұрын
@@gavshep71 This was even more inside the court. This is bad calling. This sport is just full of rampant cheating. I never cheat my opponents. It's better to have a fair scoreline than to win and not know if you really won. This is what children do. I don't know why adults cheat to win.
